DH and i live in a 1 bedroom co-op ... we are not PG nor TTC, but it's on our minds.
i figure we need to move before we have a child, but i was just wondering if anyone lives in a 1 bedroom w/ a baby, or knows anyone that does .. and if so, would you recommend it? or just any thoughts, etc?
thanks!

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom?
Hi, I live in a decent sized apt. with one large bedroom and one SMALL bedroom. When our son was a newborn it really wasnt too bad. But now that he is about to turn 2 there is just not enough space! ( Although Im not too sure there is ever enough space since my sister with a 3 bedroom house says the same thing)
Once he started walking and took over the house it was hard. his toys are everywhere in every room.
The one room that is off limits is our bedroom. We like that we have our own little corner to ourselves that actually stay neat and tidy and toy free almost all the time. Although he stayed in our room until he was 5 months old. Then we moved him into his own room.
Not sure if I helped but imo you should try to move into a 2 bedroom before you have kids.. even if its a small 2 bedroom you will appreciate having 'seperate' spaces

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom?
I think it depends on how long you are doing it. Babies tend to come with alot of gear but you can make it work but it can drive you nuts long term. When I first had my son we lived in a 2 bdrm apt on the second floor. I used every inch of space. I used my car as the closet for the stroller. We got items like the exesaucer and high chair for my shower but returned them and got the credit. We repurchased them when we needed them - about 4 or 5 months later.
But...we live in a house now and you know what, we still have stuff all over. Kids just take over your life. Except now we have more place to store things (or hide them when guests are coming over )
We have friends who have a 3 month old and are in a 1 br apt. They do have a garage in their complex so they are able to store things there. If you have somewhere to store stuff, either a garage or a relatives home) it helps make day to day life much easier.
I wouldnt let my living space be the deciding factor on whether I TTC'd, if thats your situation. Many things are workable if you need it to be. You can get a chair that straps to one of your table chairs instead of a full size highchair. You can use a travel swing exclusively instead of a full size. And there are many other ways to minimize if you need to (and believe me, the baby will be none the worse)

I lived in a one BR until my son was about a year old... You need to do whatever is most comfortable for you and your family... This topic is a sore topic for a lot of familys because the old-fashioned parents stress too much about having enough room for baby... As long as you plan out everything.. [ie: no cradle, just the babys crib, newborns dont NEED the excer-saucers at birth...] Stuff like that you should be fine. Good luck if you have any more ??'s feel free to FM me

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom?
I lived in a one bedroom till my son was about 4 and gave birth to my second little guy. We moved as soon as my little guy started to walk. It is hard at the beginning but like 2003OCT10 said i' You need to do whatever is most comfortable for you and your family' that is the bottom line. You might have reserves about it but you have to do what is best for you.

I also live in a one bedroom.. for the time being. Our plan is to continue to live there until the baby is about 1, by then I think we'll have to move to a bigger place.

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom?
I think it really depends on you and your DH. I, personally, would be very stressed in a 1 bedroom apt with a baby because you do not have your own room anymore. That means once the baby is in bed at 7pm, you can't watch TV laying down or have private conversations on the phone etc... that is not just about physical space but about personal space. Also, with a baby comes a lot more expensive and often unpaid time off for the new mommy so if you are trying to save $$ it is not easy to do after a baby. Yes, people do it but it is just not as easy. I think you need to figure out if would be happy with less space and less privacy but have a baby. People have raised families in A LOT less space that we all have now...I mean look at Little House on the Praire...they have a small house and that was typical of those times. So yes it can be done..the question becomes do you want to do it.

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom?
right .. i guess i dont really want to do it ... is it silly that i really want to have a nursery? i know that's not the most important factor .. yet it's something i really want to have .. i feel like we're busting at the seams already ... i guess it's nice to know that we *could* do it if we wanted (we wouldnt be the only ones in the world!:) .. thanks so much again for your replies!

That's exactly what me and my DH are doing. Our baby is due in June and we'll probably be here until next year...

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom?
I have a coworker that had a 1 bedroom with 2 boys & moved when the 3rd was on the way. She said it was a big 1 one bedroom.
I also had a coworker that grew up in a one bedroom with her mom (single parent) and still lives there (she's about 24)
