Anyone live in a coop/condo with a dog??

So we are having MAJOR issues with out downstairs neighbor. We live in a condo- just moved in about 3 months ago and just got a puppy about a month ago. She is only 4 months old, we got her from a shelter and she has major separation anxiety. She barks a lot especially when we leave her for the day and we go to work (she is in a crate). We are trying everything to help the barking since we want to make it comfortable for our neighbors as well. We have tried bark collars, calming products, we even moved the crate in our bedroom (so she at least doesnt bark through the night). She is an older woman and literally waits for us to come home, opens her door and complains. I understand her concerns as we are sick of the barking as well. We have had trainers come over and we are having another training session as well as possibly starting her on an anxiety medication (last resort but if it helps her and us we will do it). Today I came back all excited because I just got a job (yay) and she was home and opened her door and said its been a month and the barking hasnt improved...so she is calling the board on us and they are going to take our dog away. First of all, I get that the barking is annoyin and a nuisance. But secondly, I dont think she has the right to threaten to take our do away. I mean what if we have children (we dont have yet) is she going to complain about the crying?? So I was just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation- we love our dog and are trying every tactic we can possibly think of to help her and would be devestated if we had to give her away. We also live in a VERY dog friendly building...more than half the owners have dogs as well as the board members. I just dont know what to do at this point..its very stressful!!

That is a tough one. Hopefully everything works out. Unfortunately, you have to put yourself in your neighbors shoes. Would you be able to enjoy your living space with constant barking? Perhaps the board will have some sympathy for you since you have been trying everything that is possible to make the situation better. The dog is a puppy so eventually it will grow out of it. Good luck.

so i live in a coop and just got a dog about 7mts ago. we rescued him as a puppy but lucky he is not a barker. but i totally understand your fear. If you have board approval for the dog and can show that you are in the process of trying to train the dog, then they probably will not take the dog away. Your neighbor lives in a dog friendly building and so the sounds that come with dogs are expected. Do you have carpet where the dog is? or maybe try putting a blanket around the sides of the crate (leaving the front uncovered) these will help to muffle the sound. I know of a way a friend got their dog to stop, but it was a lot of work and very time consuming. If you want it, FM me and i'll write it to you.

yea its very frustrating. yea the dog is crated in our bedroom which is fully carpeted. and we leave a towel around the sides of the crate to make her feel comfortable. and we also leave a radio or tv on during the day to comfort her/help the barking not be so loud. I am FMing you! thank you!
