I did...and couldn't believe the price of it when I got there. I could not find it on line, so we just went to the open house..The house was 1 floor with a basement, and totally needed to be re-done, EVERYTHING was original and they were asking $559k... MY mouth dropped to the floor when I heard that!!! I thought it would be in the upper $3s !!
It was considered to be Jericho school district and i thought it was hicksville.. Oh well... its just crazy!

We went to one. It wasn't bad had a lot of potential but needed some upgrading and since the price was slightly higher then we are willing to spend it would have left us with $0 to remodel it.

DH and I are looking to move in the next year to year and a half and my agent has been sending me listings and I am in complete SHOCK over the taxes in Smithtown

We want to upgrade to a colonial and I just can't spend $9000 a year in taxes. Its so insane.

property taxes in general are just insane. our taxes are in the 10k range BUT we have over an acre of land. it makes no sense why others are paying the same amount or even higher and have postage stamp sized properties. it just isn't fair. as mentioned, property taxes will only continue to increase.

Ok - that area just got crossed off the list!!!! I totally forgot they were splitting the schools again. I'm in East Northport on the Northport side and my taxes are low and we have a decent sized house. We're definitely spoiled!!!!

How are the schools in E Northport??

Depends on where you are in East Northport - there are 3 districts.

East Northport w/ Commack schools is excellent but the taxes could make you faint.

East Northport/Elwood schools is good but not amazing - high taxes but much more reasonable than Commack. Some of the bad areas of Huntington are affiliated with Elwood.

East Northport/Northport schools - another excellent district with low taxes. I have a 1825 sq. foot high ranch and my taxes are $2000 lower than my parents who just have a ranch in Commack.

LMAO!!!! Please, it took us 2 years to find this house and the only reason we're living in it is b/c we fell into it. As much as we'd love to move I don't think I have the patience to look for another house just yet. I can't imagine moving all my furniture, accessories, 2 kids, hubby and the dog
