If you're stopping there on a cruise I definitely wouldn't worry about it...

Nope. Where we are going is far away from all the mayhem. FH didn't want to go to Mexico when we started planning our HM, but when I showed him the resort site and the cost, he changed his mind.

We went on a cruise at the end of last October and stopped in Cozumel for the day. We did an excursion and walked around the little town and had no problems. I don't know if things have changed since then, but it was very touristy and at no time did we feel uncomfortable. You could always check out the vibe and then get back on the ship if you don't feel safe, just a thought. Enjoy your cruise!

We are also stopping there on a cruise in May. DH didnt want to get off the boat for the same reason. But I talked him into the Dolphin swim (which he wants to do) through the cruise line. I think if we go with their excursions we will be ok.

Last March, FH and I went for a week to Los Cabos. It was super safe (we walked into the town and ate at very local restaurants). However, it's not on the main peninsula of Mexico, and they've never had problems with crime, kidnapping etc because it is super expensive for the locals to even live there.

SAME HERE-went on a cruise November ’09-stopped in Cozumel for 1 day. We felt fine. We arranged for 1 tour through the ship-the dolphin swim. They picked us up from outside the pier and put us into taxis (4-5 people per taxi) that took us straight to the chakanaab park. They provided taxi’s for us back too. After that we walked around the shopping plaza; and then hopped into a taxi to go to the main area where all the restaurants are. Went to Charlies for lunch drank a lot; walked around; didn’t feel unsafe for a singe moment. At least not that particular day.

I’d book a tour through the ship; wouldn’t try to just go there and find something to do.

I have been before many times and have felt VERY SAFE always. I just think it might be different this time because of all the very recent killings including 3 this week.

I'm honestly not worried about...I think everyplace has 'bad areas' that tourists should avoid. I'm going for my HM in September to Mazatlan...and Im super excited about it. I work in the travel industry and from my opinion every location has bad areas...I'm not concerned about it...you justy have to be a smart tourist and aware of your surrondings.

Most of the activity is happening in northern mexico pretty far from cabo, cancun, cozumel.

I was just there in Sept, going back in Sept for our mini moon and I'm not that worried.

We will be staying in our resort and we will not be venturing out on our own.

It seems that all the crime is really in that one northern area, I could be wrong but from what I have read that's what it seems like.

anytime youre in a foreign place you need to be aware of your surroundings

Right outside of El Paso,..

Article

Not trying to freak anyone. Resorts are fine I am sure... but just know that is not confined violence.
