anyone not do a receiving line?

anyone not do a receiving line?

We decided not to after the ceremony bc we are attending the entire cocktail hour so we'll make our rounds then.

My Q- after the ceremony and you walk down the aisle...do you just get into the limo to go to the RH?

OR

Go into a seperate room until all guests are lined up outside for the 'send off'?

our ceremony was at the RH ... it was interfaith

we did not do a receiving line because its a jewish tradition for the bride & grooom to spend a few moments alone together in the bridal suite immediately following the ceremony.

with a church ceremony, i guess i would go in to a separate room to wait for the guests to be lined up so you can make your 'grand exit' ... its a great photo opp at a church ceremony.

i do think that many of your guests will be surprised that you aren't doing a receiving line at the church, but they will get over it ...

We got married at our RH and didn't do a receiving line. Right after the ceremony we took some family pictures and then went to the cocktail hour & we were able to greet some of our guests there.

I hadn't planned to do a receiving line at the church, but once people started coming out after us I wanted to say hello to them! It was really quick, just DH and I quickly hugged everyone as they came out. Probably 10 mins tops (and I had a lottt of people at the church). Another reason I'm glad I did is because there were some people who came only to the church and not the reception, and if I didn't do the receiving line I never would have known they were there! For us we enjoyed it and it was worth it... just something to think about...

But if you really don't want to do it, just go into the room at the back of the church for a few minutes as all the guests clear out and stand outside... then you can walk out and make your grand exit

yea I hadn't thought about those only coming to the ceremony and not RH...I don't think there will be anyone doing that but you never know! I just know it took over 30 min at my friends wedding and we don't want to miss CH because of pics. Hmmm....something to think about

We didn't do a receiving line. Actually, my photographer shut the main entrance doors and told everyone we'd see them at the reception. I wasn't exactly happy about that. My suggestion was to have the bridal party line up and we'd stay in a little area behind them. This way when the church cleared out, we could go back in and take some pictures.

We were married at the RH and didn't have a receiving line either. We went to take photos directly after the ceremony and luckily we able to attend the last 15-20 minutes of cocktail hr. It was nice because we were able to say hi to a bunch of people then and it shortend the amount of time we had to spend 'making the rounds' so to speak.

I didn't do a receiving line since it was almost sundown and we wanted to take pics before the CH. So, we made out way down the aisle and went straight out the door. Our photographner took a bunch of pic of us outside with our BP and just us, and lots of guests looked on and took their own pics. We meant to make the CH but didn't have enough time. We took more pics at the RH then were announced at the beginning of the reception.

no receiving line b/c we got married at where the reception was taking place and we would lose daylight time for pix.
Besides I really hate that anyway.
I talked to everyone at our wedding

I didn't do it. We had over 150 people at the church so it would have taken too long because we had to get to OWG for pictures before sunset (late ceremony). I also decided to miss cocktail hour and make my grand entrance at the reception. Instead, I went around to each person at the tables to say hello. Now that I'm thinking about it, it was a little crazy to do this, but my husband insisted! It only took about 1/2 hour-real fast!!!!

I just remembered, my photographer insisted I not do the RL at the church! He said to the people, the bride and groom will receive you at the wedding!

We got married at the RH then circulated for the cocktail hour. We then did a second round during the reception. I'm not much of a dancer.

nope, we had the ceremony and reception at the same place and only had the CH in between to take basically all of our pics so there was NO way we could do that. i hate those things with a passion anyways. i had a smaller, more intimate wedding anyways and got to chat with the guests at the reception.

Re: anyone not do a receiving line?

Thanks for the replies! I think we will exit the church, go around to the back door to take a few pics after guests leave. Maybe have our parents stand at the door to tell the guests we will see them at the CH.

Thanks again!

Re: anyone not do a receiving line?

I was dead set against it b/c we were fighting a battle to get outside to catch the last light for pictures. But we ended up doing it and I'm so glad we did. We got to greet everyone formally for a quick hi and hug and then we went out and got the last of the light for our photos before hopping in the limo to head out to the RH. By doing the receiving line, we were able to skip CH and have some private time by ourselves, as well as not spend the entire reception going from table to table to talk at great lengths (we still made it to every table, but by having the receiving line at Church, we were able to cut the time for table hopping in half).

Yeah I don't want to do one either!

there will be some ppl there that i haven't even met yet and I will want to talk to them individually and not hold up a huge line!

Re: anyone not do a receiving line?

We actually did not have the time to because after the ceremony we had to do photographs because we did not want to do couple photographs before the ceremony (we wanted to do it the traditional way) that we were both surprised to see each other and how we looked at the ceremony. It is your and your future husbands wedding you do it your way and don't worry what everyone else says.
