Re: Anyone NOT doing programs?
I'm not doing them- our ceremony is at the hall, and probably going to be a total of about 5 mins, so we didn't think it was necessary.

Re: Anyone NOT doing programs?
I am not doing programs. I don't know if it matters, but I am having a ceremony not a mass. Someone told me that usually you would want to if you were having a full mass.

Honestly, it's just one more headache in my opinion. I don't think we are going to bother.

Re: Anyone NOT doing programs?
I don't know what I'm doing. I never heard of programs until my cousin's wedding last summer, but that was an inter-faith marriage. And then my mom brought one home from a wedding she was at recently. Unless there's something that I really want to say, then maybe, but otherwise, it's just one extra thing. Maybe i'll let MOH come up with one!

I'm not doing them either...and have only been to one wedding where they had them.

Re: Anyone NOT doing programs?
I am, but I think it's nice to have something that formally introduces the wedding party.
Others do it when it's a Christian or Catholic marriage so that those who are not Christian or Catholic can understand a bit of the order of the Mass.
But I don't think it's a necessity. Half the time people leave them on the seats anyway.

I'm on the fence about them. I don't think they're necessary.

Eh, I don't think I'll do them. Never heard of them until on here. I don't think it's a biggie, and I think I'm doing do the ceremony without the Mass anyway.

Re: Anyone NOT doing programs?
I don't know yet, it depends.
Programs are BIG where I come from (Texas) only cause most hispanic families have sponsorship.. Aunt So-and-So sponsors the flowers, Uncles Tom, **** & Harry sponsors the band, Aunt Nosey sponsors the shoes.. etc.
In that case it's a family duty and pride to clearly and correctly give credit to each member who contributed to the wedding. It's also where everyone is introduced since no one knows (other than my dad & siblines) my husband's family.
Then again, if I get no sponosorship (and I don't think I will) then why bother? On less thing..whoohooo..
But just ONE sponsorship of ANY item (including, yes, the programs themselves) then I am duty-bound to print it out.
But heck if they're paying for parts of the wedding, Im totally ok with a little kudos in return. hehe
Sponsorship denotes a financial status among the rest of the family, shows support towards the wedding, shows support or strong feelings for those who are wed or basically just shows that some folks are still alive in the family (never see but on Wedding programs and obituaries).

Re: Anyone NOT doing programs?
We only did programs because we had an interfaith wedding and I wanted to include explanations of certain things that my family would not know. I think it's a matter of preference whether to have programs or not. Guests will not miss them if you choose not to have programs.
