I have no idea what to do for the ceremony?? Like, for readings, etc... Would the person who preforms the cremony know/have suggestions as to what is normally done?? or do We have to come up with the format?? I'm totally clueless!

Re: Anyone not getting married in Church- HELP!
My Fh & I are not getting married in a chruch, we booked a reformed priest that someone we know is using. They will do whatever kind of ceremony you want. Traditional Catholic ceremony, interfaith or you can do you own vows. If you want more info you can FM me. Hope this helps!

I am almost positive that there is a list of the 'normal' readings. I haven't sat down with the priest yet, but every wedding that I go to has the same basic readings. The Love is patient and kind one (I think that's Corinthians) and The wedding at Cana is the gospel, there are a few others that usually come in there too.

The officiant will have a list of suggested popular readings and an outline of standard ceremonies. You can tweak the outline to fit your personalities/family/wedding style and select readings of your own if you find a poem or saying that you like better. Not getting married in a church really allows you to customize your ceremony.

Yes, your officiant will help you.
Do you want a fairly traditional service just not in a church?
It really depends upon the officiant as to how traditional or liberal a service they feel comfortable conducting.
I'm at this point now and have the names of several officiants if you are interested. Many of them are either general Rev's or Catholic priests who officially left the church but can do a traditional ceremony if that is what you are looking for.
Personally, I want someone who is a bit more of a 'studied clergy member' if you know what I mean... I don't think I'd feel officially married... just me.
My uncle asked me the other day... 'Are you having one of those ministers from 'The Church of What's Happening Now' ?'

I'm using Rev. April G. She met with us and taylors it to your needs. I liked the fact that she came up with suggestions on what she has done before but also listened to us. I like when she started singing Iron Man from B. S. Heheheheheehe. We are incorporating an asian inspired ceremony . The first draft she sent us after our initial meeting told us she is very detailed and puts a great deal of energy and enthusiasm even though we didn't agree to book her yet. It's good to have some ideas to bounce off each other.
Best Wishes,
Thomas

We are not getting married in a church and we are writing our whole ceremony. I have readings that I picked out that aren't the traditional 'readings' but that have meaning for Gary and I...I don't know who will marry us...

That's exactly how we feel. Religon is a touchy subject with alot of people so without really getting into it too much I'd definitely find someone whom you are comfortable with. It doesn't matter that you aren't in a building to us. It's the honesty and truthfullness behind those words. If saying a scripted dialouge is ok for you then go for it. Maybe add a little something to make it your own wedding. Some jump from planes and some go underwater. It all comes down to what those things said or unsaid mean to the both of you.
