I think you would regret it...

get someone...even a photography student...there are inexpensive alternatives, but you don't want to look back and not have beautiful pictures.

Even if you cannot afford the 'perfect' one, or you cannot find the him/her, there must be someone that you liked their work. Perhaps you can discuss only having the photographer for a few select hours instead of all day/night to help keep costs down.
Photos are the one tangible thing that last long after the wedding is over.
