Originally I wanted to do something unique. My mom said, 'you can't have a wedding without flowers! BLASPHEMY! I will buy them.' (well, not her words exactly). I said OKIE DOKIE.
She pissed me off yesterday when she made some comment about FH and I taking a trip to Florida for my birthday. She said, 'I don't like how you're spending the money I gave you.' EXCUSE ME, but NO MONEY has exchanged hands. She bought my dress and said she'd get the flowers but she hasn't actually given me money. FH and I are saving over $1,000 per month towards the wedding which we are paying for on our own.
Anyway, so I'm thinking about going to my original idea of not using flowers...
End vent!

I know. I hate being an only child sometimes!! She doesn't have anyone else to annoy.

i have been to 3 weddings with no flowers
1. a sea/beach theme: glass vase with sand, shells and a candle in the center.. very simple, elegant, went well with the theme
2. a mirrored tray with tea lights, mirrored cylinder with 2 or 3 orchids (cost under 20 bucks each centerpiece) and was gorgeous!!!
3. large candle lanterns with tea lights surrounding.. was very pretty because the place was darker and it was at night, so it looked really nice and romantic
So yes, there are people who do not use flowers :)

she doesn't know how our finances are and she probably thinks your spending money you should be saving on wedding related things.
have you gone to look for flowers yet? if you haven't, bring her with you to the florist, but make it clear up front that she will have to leave the deposit and make payments to them directly so you don't have to pay them and then she will reimburse you.
if you really don't want flowers, its not the end of the world

I'm not using flowers. They're really expensive, and I'd feel so bad about killing them just for decoration.
We're going with fruit and candles.
As with everything else, if people don't like it, they can shove it.

We haven't gone to a florist yet. I guess we'll go and see what kind of prices we get quoted and then go from there. I don't want her to spend a lot of the flowers either. It's not like I threw the expense off on her! But I think she thinks I'm being a cheap-o
My friend got married on Saturday and she didn't have flowers either as her centerpiece. Honestly, as a guest, I didn't miss them!

There's so many beautiful things you could do beside flowers. She put you in a rough position by saying that. If it were me, I would say thank you so much for the kind gesture mommy, but please, save your money and were going to do something more 'our style' and unique. I'm an only child too, so I get how you feel bad.

I don't think every cake needs flowers. If you don't want flowers, then you definitely don't have to get them. You want to look back in 10 years and be happy that you did what you wanted.
