Not on Atkins; but I am trying to cut down on them a bit. I am a big fan of bread.

Re: Anyone on Atkins
I am and I love it. Anyone who thinks it isn't good for you/healthy can't know much about what the diet really is. The early stages are a bit extreme, but the lifetime phase is filled with good for you food - fruits, veggies, whole grains and NATURAL foods.

ok, i am not going to start anything, BUT if you are going to talk you should at least know about the diet you are doing....in the long run of things, too much red meat is not good for the liver, any doctor will tell you this, so if you take the IDEA of the diet, that truly is best for a person, lower carbs+greens, fruit can only be good for you,
just my thought

Atkins is not about eating only red meat.
And as Ophelia states, that after an extreme 2 week induction period which specifically INCLUDES vegetables, you do add in high fiber grains and fruit.

Re: Anyone on Atkins
I do - I have done quite a bit of research on this, and followed every study that has been done, and that's why I made that statement. So many people think that Atkins = red meat, butter and bacon and nothing else.
Directly from Atkins:
'You may also enjoy eating beef; however, it is not advisable to eat steak every day.'
Atkins himself (and the company after his death) does NOT recommend unlimited amounts of red meat. In fact, they encourage other meats - PARTICULARLY fish (and even more specifically, oily cold water fish which contain Omega-3 fatty acids), but chicken and pork as well.
I've also never heard that red meat is bad for your liver? The only places that still claim that Atkins will damage your liver/kidneys/whatever seem to be radical vegan sites and people with a STRONG agenda against Atkins (ie sugar/processed carb manufacturers - I think we can ALL agree that sugar and processed carbs are really not healthy in any way). Many studies have showed that on the Atkins diet, people lose MORE weight than on a low fat diet (all the while consuming more calories*), AND their blood tests end up better as well (low cholesterol/low triglycerides/etc - basically all the stuff that is supposed to predict heart problems IMPROVES while on atkins)
*note that more calories does not mean unlimited calories - studies have shown people can lose weight on 1600-1800 calories a day, when while following a low fat diet, they'd have to eat 1200-1400 calories a day for the same weight loss.
Please note that this isn't meant as a slam, I just try to educate people about the diet, as so many are uninformed (trust me, before I decided to try it, I thought the same things)

yes i understaand, but you are writing what HE said, and this is his diet, so dont you think he is going to say what you want to hear...there are still bad sides to the diet, i am just saying that for a short time, it's good but in the long run it is not

Findings in Tuesday's Annals of Internal Medicine:
- At six months the low-carb group had lost an average of 13 pounds; the conventional dieters lost about 4 pounds.
- After a year, the low-carb group was down an average of 11 pounds. The other group continued to lose and dropped an average of 8 pounds. The difference was not statistically significant.
- The low-carb group had a decrease in triglycerides, and the diabetics had better control of their blood sugar.
- Both diet groups had fairly high dropout rates, losing almost a third of the dieters.
'The take home message: For a year, it appears that a low-carbohydrate diet is safe,' says internist Linda Stern, the study's lead author.
The Duke study, also in the medical journal, tracked 120 overweight people for six months. Low-carb dieters lost 26 pounds compared with 14 pounds for traditional dieters.
The low-carb dieters had better improvements in triglycerides and good cholesterol than the traditional dieters.
