I've been on it before and lost 27lbs. in 3months. I did really well but then got pregnant so I stopped. Anyone have any tips on how to jumpstart it or get the most out of it. Im not planning on staying on it very long because I know it's not the most healthy of diets to do for a long period of time.

Re: Anyone on Atkins
honestly, i'd avoid atkins. i know so many people who were on it and their metabolisms got screwed up. it supposedly works great the first time you're on it, and terribly after that. i'd recommend calorie counting (between 1200 {very low} - 1500 {good place to start} calories) and exercise. i did that and lost like 45 lbs in 7 (i think) months. fitday.com is a really good website. check it out and good luck! fm me if you want any more info.

Re: Anyone on Atkins
I don't reccomend atkins either. My mom is a nurse and she had told me of a lot of people who were on this diet that now have a lot of problems. Have you tried Weight Watchers? It's not really a diet it teaches you how to eat, and their isn't any special fool you have to eat. It really works. They have an at home kit, and online meeting, and if you didn't want to do all that just get the points book with the starter kit and your in busines.
For excersis since you don't have alot of time I recommend the 'Walk away the Pounds' DVD. They have different miles you can walk and a three mile walk is about a half hour. A one mile walk is like 15 mins.
Good luck.

Re: Anyone on Atkins
I have tried weight watchers and liked it however, I am not a very disiplined person that's why I like Atkins. I worked for a doctors office too and even my doctor dont recommend it for long periods of time because it can cause more damage than good in the long run but for 3 months my doctor says it would be fine. Im also not a strict Atkins person. I just need alittle jumpstart and then I plan on just doing grilled or baked chicken and veggies. My problem is more of the exercise I have step tapes, a treadmill, a bike but I just cant seem to find time in the day to use them with the babies around.

Re: Anyone on Atkins
I tried Atkins for a day and then stopped because I don't eat meat, so this diet really was not for me. Good luck though!

I think WW's is a lot more flexible than Atikins. You can also do a low card diet...where you only eat whole grain carbs, and then maybe limit yourself to only eating carbs at lunch. If you increase your intake of veggies (a source of more healthy carbs) it won't be too bad. Also, do you plan to workout?

Re: Anyone on Atkins
i did atkins after my daughter and had insane results (45 pounds in 8 weeks) along with a workout video (yes, workout video) that is broken down into 3-10 minute parts. it was easy to find time for it. i only wanted to lose 20 pounds and gain back some of my abs....i've never had great abs and i don't think i ever will....but it helped.
that was 5 years ago.
2 years ago, i had gained so much weight that NONE of my clothes fit and i coudln't afford new ones...so i went on what i called a modified atkins diet...really, i just cut out all bread and anything that was in a box. if it wasn't fresh, canned (except for fruit..i only ate FRESH fruit) or frozen, it didn't go in my mouth. I also ONLY drank water...nothing else..not juice or tea or anything. I worked ina bakery then...very tempting..but I forced myself to be good if only to not hear people yell at me!
anytime i find myself not fitting into my clothes, i simply cut out 'processed' foods and i drop a few pounds easily. also, ICE COLD water is a key secret i learned...your body has to warm it up to send it though thus burning a few extra calories.

Re: Anyone on Atkins/Updated
Okay ladies Im excited. I know it's probably only water weight but it's a beginning. I started Atkins on Wednesday and today is Saturday and I lost..... 12lbs. I have been eating two salads a day, lots of water, grilled chicken sometimes and tonight I had skirt steak with mushrooms, black olives in garlic and butter and a salad with oil and vinegar. I take a vitamin everyday but havent started working out yet. Im playing on starting on monday

That is great. I'm glad you are eating veggies and taking a vitamin...and eating healthy meats instead of fatty ones.

Re: Anyone on Atkins/updated
I feel much better this time then the first time I did it 3yrs. ago. I also went on the site and it has been totally redone since I was on it and it seems that the rules have changed a bit. I found it much more helpful. Im so excited I might take the babies for a bike ride today Im sure like everyone else with a weight problem you have that one pair of jeans in your closet that you just cant get rid of until I fit into them again, well I also have a gown I also feel alot more satisfied now then before. I do find it hard though to find stuff with no sugar in it and when I do it tastes nasty.

Re: Anyone on Atkins/updated
Good Luck Girl! Just dont do it really strict and drink plenty of water, a multivitamin and veggies or you could make yourself ill. I learned the hard way the first time I did it. I constantly had headaches because I never drank more than a bottle of water a day if that and ate more meat and fats then veggies. FM if you need support. I know I do.
