Re: Anyone own a Boxer (dog)?
Our neighbor has a boxer and she is a sweetheart...but a little too hyper and slobbery for our taste. Their two daughters also have boxers and they all seem to be really great dogs.
We went with a Bull Mastiff - similar look but much better disposition, IMO. But, bigger dog too.

Re: Anyone own a Boxer (dog)?
Our neighbors used to have a boxer and he was so cute and friendly. I heard boxers can have mean dispositions, but I really feel it all depends on how the dog is raised and breed has nothing to do with it. Their main problem with him was digging. If they'd let him outside, he would almost always dig his way out and he'd run around the neighborhood. I don't know if that's a common boxer thing though, but even if it is, I'm sure it can be fixed with proper training. They just never took the time.

My ex-bf had a bull mastiff. SUCH sweet and loving dogs. Surprising because they're so large. His dog was a mush though.

Thanks! I guess I should do some more research. I am a little worried also because we won't be home most of the day. I don't want him to be lonely

Omg yes... she is SUCH A MUSH!! She becomes more and more of a rug each day, but to look at her you would think she would bite your head off. She is so loving and these dogs have really great personalities.

YES I HAVE A BOXER they are GREAT dogs, with other dogs and kids and cats , they have the best demeanor.and he is the biggest moosh, they just want to be by your side 24-7 they are 1 of the best breeds for overall friendliness. Its def worth it and in east meadow the international kennel club has 2 of them I get Stoli his treats from there- we also bought him there too, they are NOT cheap! be prepared to spend over 1000 for a champion breed. but soooooooo worth it, and yes they are hyper but mine doesnt slobber at all- thats weird that someone said that???they are not slobber dogs. they lick a lot but not slobber. good luck .

If you are interested in adopting a boxer, check out the boxer rescue group in the tristate area. My aunt rescued one from them and thye are great, but want a lot of attention,
Greyhounds also make great pets, kinda like couch potatoes.

Re: Anyone own a Boxer (dog)?
MY ex boyfriend of 15 years had a boxer and I knew it from a pup to when it passed.. She was so sweet. Her name was Missy.. She literally was to this day the nicest dog I have come across.. She shed a lot, was very slobbery and super hyper..... I think they are prone to a few diseases and thats what happened to her.. She did live a pretty long life though..
I would get one, but my main concern is boxers are butt stampers! Anything with a cropped tail I just cant handle that.. Stamp my leg, stamp the floor.. its just too gross LOL
ETA - yes the gas is the WORST!

Re: Anyone own a Boxer (dog)?
BTW - I have had greyhounds and whippets and they are great! Theyre like gentle cats and are actually one dog that is recommended for apartments, though they also do need good exercise! I just got another one week ago.. Here she is!!!
