Anyone plan Italy honeymoon?

Anyone plan Italy honeymoon?

Just looking for advice on planning a honeymoon to Italy. We really want to go but I'm afraid it'll get too expensive. Just trying to get an idea of ways to do it less expensive.
Any advice on what cities to visit or what hotels you're staying at would be great. TIA

Sorry I can't help - we're going to France. I registered on Traveler's Joy to help offset our honeymoon costs, which has been very nice and fun for our guests to check out to see what we're up to for the honeymoon.

Hope you figure out a way to make it work!

Re: Anyone plan Italy honeymoon?

Hey Lauren...so you saw that I posted about us finally choosing to do a Med cruise. for going to all those contries, we would never ever be able to afford that and even going to two of the countries with airfare and all the food on euros would just be so expensive...also hotel accomodations for many european hotels are a bit expensive if you want american conveniences. the cruise will come to about 2400 with taxes for a room with a verandah which is about middle of the line...there were the inner and outer rooms with a window and then there was suites of course too. Hopefully roundtrip airfare for the two of use will not be more then 800 pp...hoping for more like 600 or 700

anyway, i know you didnt specifically ask for info on cruises but you said b4 that you might look into this as well. hope i can help with anything else after i find out more and book our trip with a few stops in italy...oh im going to look up the name of the hotel that we're going to stay at for a night in venice.

Re: Anyone plan Italy honeymoon?

Hi,
I'll be going to Italy for my HM in less than 2 weeks. yay! I shopped around quite a bit with multiple TAs and at the end of the day Monique from Great Escapes by Marique was able to get me the best quote with the best quality of hotels. I would definitely talk to her as she's a vendor here. Don't be afraid to ask them to match other websites or TAs either! (I saved about 2K!!) I met with Monique this past weekend to get our travel docs, and she's awesome.

For us, we'll be going to Florence, Rome and the Amalfi Coast. I definitely wanted to end the trip on the Amalfi Coast since its a beachy location. I heard Venice is very expensive and slightly further away from Florence and Rome, (oh yeah, and kinda smelly in the summer time). I can give you a list of hotels we're staying at, but not sure what your budget is. Let me know! Good luck!

Re: Anyone plan Italy honeymoon?

We are going to Barcelona, Florence and Rome for 12 days/11 nights. Our airline tickets are free b/c we are using points, and our hotels total $4300 for 4/5 star hotels (5 nights in Italy totals $3500). But the Italy hotels are so expensive because FH 'needed' to stay at the St. Regis, which eats up 450 per night. You can do a very nice hotel in Rome for $350 per night, or a more economical one for $200.

Activities can range in price, depending on what you want to do. If you do the typical tourist thing, you will probably spend about $200 per day on activities, food, and misc shopping. You can certainly do it cheaper if you are careful with how you spend and if you plan ahead. You are also going at the tail end of the shoulder season, which means you will probably save a few dollars on the hotels.

Airfaire can be anywhere from $600 and up, check Kayak.com for price comparison. Although Kayak doesn't compare all carriers, it gives you a good range so you can see fair prices.

A cruise may be more economical, and it can be very fun, if you like cruising.

Expedia has great deals, and Liberty Travel does price matching if you want to work with an agent but get the online prices. FM me if you have more questions. Good luck!
