Anyone postponing their wedding due to the economy?

Anyone postponing their wedding due to the economy?

My fiance and I were suppose to get married this June but, I'm graduating from college and financially we feel like it has become too stressful. My family is paying for the majority of the wedding but we just feel that it is too much of a strain at this time with the economy the way it is. So we have decided to give ourselves another year to save and plan. Also I am a huge procrastinator and have not done that much considering it was supposed to be in 5 months. We have been together for about 5 1/2 years so what's another year. But, people are acting like we are breaking up it's weird. Anyone in the same boat?

I am graduating this year too this is why we chose to get married next year because i knew it was going to be stressful. We booked our RH back in august sand we keep hearing oh that's far away...and some morbid people say OH well i might be then by then...lol but blah! it doesn't matter anymore what matters is the happiness that you both share if you decided to postpone your wedding til next year it is a smart idea. Whenever your wedding is is going to be beautiful good luck!

Not yet. We may have to, still... but so far so good. We're just making more economically sound vendor decisions and that seems to be working for now.

We are hoping not to, but wondering if we may need to.

I'm graduating this year as well which is why we decided to put the off until next year. There is nothing wrong with postponing your wedding because at the end of the day you have to do what is best for you. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks because they are not the one's paying for your wedding so they should not have a say in when it is.

Thanks you guys I already feel a little better. I wanted a destination wedding from the beginning and FH did not. But, I think we could save so much money if we did because it is crazy how all the little details add up and are so stressful to decide on!

Not yet and I'm hoping we won't have to, we are paying for everything and if we fall short in the end his parents have offered to help us out

i am also graduating this year, & FH just decided to go back to school & he should be graduating January 2010. so when we got engaged we planned for an April 2010 wedding.

due to the economy we held off booking the RH until a month ago.

That's what I wanted too but FH was not having it. Maybe when he realizes how much everything cost he will change his mind.

We are hoping not to have to, but with the economy the way it is you never know what can happen.
But money is the reason we picked 2010 as our year in the first place instead of 09...We knew that it would be hard from the beginning...

I'm hoping we don't have to! We got engaged in 2007 so we wanted to wait awhile to save money- hopefully we have enough time to save!

Fh and I did. We were supposed to get married Oct 3, 2009.

We pushed it back a year because he lost his job and is not working at macy's for 1/2 the salary.

But, we also had some other issues. He had alot of debt he kind of didn't tell me about, and when he lost his job and couldn't make payments alot of things went to collections.

So, I think it is better to wait a little while and do all the things you want to do. We debated having a smaller affair, but we feel like a few years later we would regret not doing all the things we dreamed of. I mean, you only get married once.

My family was very supportive of the decision, his family was not. His mom was very upset about the whole thing, and his aunt gave us flack because she had already lost weight to fit into her new dress. Seriously, that was her complaint, that she might gain it all back by 2010. In my eyes, we did her a favor.

Just tell people you only get married once and you would like to have all the things you want without going into debt. Let them know if you had to do a smaller wedding you would have gad to dramatically cut the guest list (and hint maybe their name would have been cut). Even if it is not true it gets them off your back.

FH and I have also been together 5 1/2 years, and we live together so to me nothing is really going to change.

I HOOPE we don't have to. We are looking into a sept 10 wedding so thats a little less then 2 years away. hopefully the extended engagement will allow us more time to save $.

I am planning on quitting my full time job and going back to school this coming sept. i'd still be working full time and the pay is pretty good but the job i'm at now is funded by a grant and chances are this same job won't be around in a year anyway.

It's really scary. To save some $ and stress i'm probably going to take the fall semester off.
