Anyone recently visit Antigua? (Concerns about current crimes)
Couple murdered on their HM? Chief of police retired because he can't control things? What's going on?
Do you think it's safe to go? Has anyone gone on their HM recently? How is it there?

That's where we're going. I think we're still going to go, I just want to double check to make sure we'll be ok.

Here's the thing, the caribbean in general has a super high crime rate, it's like quadruple that of the U.S. You're taking a chance going ANYWHERE in the caribbean, but that said, you take a chance going anywhere in the world, I wouldn't let it stop you. Antigua and the other islands of the caribbean are gorgeous and the people are lovely. You can stay here and go to Kansas and have something terrible happen, you never know and you can't be worried about it. Go wherever you want and wherever you feel comfortable, but I wouldn't let something like this stop you, it was a horrible tragedy yes, but a freak occurence nonetheless.

No where in the world is safe. There is a tremendous amount of crime throughout the Caribbean, mostly robbery, but there are violent crimes too. Tourist destinations are usually secured fairly well so if you are going to a high crime area, stay in the resort. Resorts don't want to be known as the resort who had a tragedy occur on their property or to one of their guests. Just be aware of your surroundings like you would anywhere.

most all the resorts I have been to in the carribean have tons of security. The reason all-inclusives have become so popular is because you don' t have to leave the property and with all their safety, you should be fine.
We are going to Sandals Antigua for our HM and plan on doing some excursions. If you do go on excursions, make sure they are booked through the resort so they are with reputable companies.

We're going to Sandals too!
And thanks everyone for the advice. We're still planning on going, I just wanted to make sure it was something out of the ordinary and not some collapse of government or something.
