Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I am not a nut or anything like that but I do total body toning at least three days a week. I love working my lower body more than anything else. How serious are you??? I love working with weights but I don't lift heavy weights the most I do on my biceps are 12lbs. Tell me a little about your w/o regiment.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I stick to a schedule.
day 1-chest/tris day 2-legs day 3-shulders/bis day 4-back
I try to throw in cardio here and there, with abs.
I go to the gym between 3-4 days a week depending on my work load, usually during lunch, or after work.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I am going to start me weight training this week. I am now on schedule where I visit the gym 3-5 times a week. I am hooking with someone who will give some pointers on weight training.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I think a lot of women are afraid of weights, if they only knew the benefits, more women would be rushing to the weight lifting section of the gym I know you know this, but women that are afraid, needs to know that we do not have the type of bodies that can bulk up by lifting 5 to 10 lbs. You have to be on some serious steroids and training and eating regimen to look the way some of these women look.
I love lifting with free weights as well as universal weights. I need to work more on my upper body, I am weak and my triceps are still very undefined....it is getting there tho' when I flex I can see my little horse shoe
Your w/o schedule seems rigorous, your body must look fantastic. I don't think I have to tell you to keep going b/c you already know the benefits
Natasha, you are on the right track girl, a lot of people quit early on b/c they injure themselves from improper form etc. It is always quality over quantity. Let me know how you are doing.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
Hey Natasha and Shamma, keep up the weights! It is the true fountain of youth. Shamma, you are so right, girls just can't get big withut steroids, or freaky levels of testosterone in their bodies. I would never do that!! I do it for confidence, and to stay healthy and young.
I have been training for seven years now. I have learned a lot from my good friend who is a nutritionist, trainer, and spin instructor, and from my ex-boyfriend who was a trainer. I almost became one myself, but stuck with my original career in interior design.
So, I love to talk about it, and teach people how to train. So if anyone has questions, just ask!
I am in good shape, but I used to be in better shape. My body fat used to be so low, it became unhealthy. That's when I decided to cool it, and focus on my career. Now I have balance in my life
Good luck to everyone!!

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I try to go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I run for 30 min...I do the step for 15-20 min then I work with the weights (free and machines) for another 45 minutes. I also work abs by doing 150-200 crunches I am already noticing a difference in my body shape(its just a little but it helps with the motivation)

If you are doing leg machines, you should really do them before cardio, or on a day when you are not doing cardio. This will let you train them fully without getting fatigued from lack of glycogen in the muscles from doing the cardio.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I weight train & do cardio.
I go to the gym 5 days a week. I also am a runner...I do this as my cardio with one day of something else either eliptical or a class for a little cross training. Sunday I run in the winter series race it fun :)
Weight training is a very important part of a healthy life style. I started out by taking a body sculpting class at the gym then slowly added on machines. The more muscle you have the faster you body burns fat. It's a lot easier to stay in shape once you are there.
I think you are all doing wonderful!! I have been there and I know how hard it is. You need to make excerising a priority in your day just like anything else! I learned a lot from my dad...he is 53 and in great shape! He is my idol
PS...Shamma I saw you at the GTG & you look GREAT!!

That's great Happy! Your doing good. It's good to have a role model like your dad. My dad is in good shape for his age. He is a retired nyc fireman. I want him to get to the gym!! He does a little free-weight in the basement.
I started to run, but then stopped. I want to start again when my cold goes away. I have to do more cardio. It's very important!

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
Happybride, thanks for such a lovely compliment.
I agree that you alternate how you work your body, you have to give it time to recover. My next total body toning class is on Wednesday. I used to be a track runner, but now I only run for my health. Exercise and eating right goes hand in hand.
The body is an amazign machine, the more you give it and treat it, the more it gives back to you.
Muscles burn fat even at rest...how awesome is that

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I actually just kicked my workout routine into high gear this week. I'll be working out 6 days a week between weights and cardio. I would love to have my arms look firm and toned...they're getting there but I need some extra work.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
To firm your arms (or any other body part) you need to loose bodyfat and train with a weight that you can only lift for 8-10 reps and that's it. If you can do any more, than it's too light. Do about three sets of two-three exercises. This should be the rule for all body parts. But ease into this. Start by doing 12-15 reps for two sets of two different exercies (machines, or free weights). Soon, biceps should only be done about once a week (they need to rest).
I hope this makes sence. But don't forget, what you eat, is very important, and can spead things up tremendously. Eat .8-1 gram of protein for each pound you weigh.
Good luck!!

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
Good tips Snowboardgirl. I've got a similar schedule to yours. I weight train 4 times a week: -Chest/bis -Legs -Back/tris -Shoulders
After that I do cardio for 30 min then some abs. I have a lean lanky build so I have to do low reps with heavy weights to bulk up a little. I also eat a good deal of protein and about 6 mini-meals a day. People at work see me eating all the time and they're like, where do you put it all?!!
Keep up the good work girls!

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I just recently got back into working out. It's been about a month and I am really seeing a difference! Your advice here is really good.
I am really trying to sculpt my arms..I've got a decent stomach...but I've got thighs and a butt that need work!!
Tips for the inner thighs?? Is it better to do heavier weight or more reps?? Also, I need to work the area right by the armpit (sorry!!!) but am very small chested and am afraid to tighten the pecs by doing a bunch of vertical presses.... any other ideas?
Any advice is welcome!! Thanks.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I started weight training with my boyfriend now fiance for 1 1/2 years now and am very happy with the results I've gotten so far. My FH is very into health and Men's Health is his bible - we do a lot of the work outs recommended by that magazine. I am leaner and my muscle are more defined and I eat about as much as my FH. We lift weights 3-4 times a week and some cardio in between. I'm lucky to have my FH as a 'personal trainer' b/c without him I wouldn't have known what to do.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
Februarybride - I read your comment about your fear of building the pecs with a chuckle. I too am small chested and at first I did not believe my FH when he said that chest presses will build up the pec muscles making you look bigger, but after having done many chest presses I have noticed more of a cleavage developing. So I would recommend chest presses to build up the muscles below your breasts and armpit.

Re: Anyone SERIOUS about weight training?
I definitely can use some cleavage....
So what is the deal with Cardio?? I thought it was a must!! Sounds like from what I'm hearing here that you don't have to do it all the time. I do 30min everyday before working out.
