Anyone travel with a wedding dress????HELP!!!

ok so i am on my way to new york this evening. One problem, how the heck am i going to get this big dress on the plane? If I fold it into a garment bag, won't it get crushed beyond repair because of all the layers? will they just let me bring it in the david's bridal garment bag instead of folding it into a little regular garment bag? Help me out ladies because I have no clue and I refuse to check it in. Thanks so much!!!

I would leave it in the bag from Davids- and i would carry it on -don't want it to get lost with luggage - an ask the stewardes nicely to put it in the hanging closest -she should understand that it is your wedding dress- they say never to check anything really important - if you do not have to check make sure you have insurance on it - it might just be sfer to have it shipped with Fed Ex

When one of my frineds was traveling from houston to ohio for her wedding they told her she would have to buy a plane ticket for it because it was so big. .
I definetly wouldn't shp it i would carry it in the davids bridal bag with me on the plane.

they said they don't have closets. I know i have seen people with davids' bridal bags in the airport, why do i have to put mine in a garment bag? its bad enough i have my girls dresses in a check in bag.

i would defiantly bring it on with you- i was watching airplane- a reality show about airlines and things that occur there. anyway, a bride had put hers on the bottom of the plane since they made her check it and it fell off the trucks that were bringing the luggage to the plane and the truck ran it over- anyway, there were oil marks all over the dress- the dress was ruined right before her wedding.

its funny you said that, my FH told me the same story last night. I don't know ladies, worse comes to worse I will have to fold it up into a regualar garment bag and hope it doesn't crush the dress beyond repair. Thanks for all your help. If there is anyone who has had to travel with one before please give me any tips or warnings. Thanks

Call the airline ,just let them know your bring your gown and it Won't fit into a garment bag .Usually the stewards will take care of it and have someplace to hang it.You'll have to do the normal stuff and have it security scaned. But thats the least of your worries.

I dealt with the same thing and just decided to have it shipped to me. It was wrinkled when it arrived, but I sent it to the cleaners to have it steamed. Came out perfect. Good luck!!

I think you will be fine in a travel bag. Add a layer of white acid free tissue paper in the bust and arms. Then arrange to have it steamed and pressed upon arrival.

I flew from LA to Atlanta last weekend and there was a woman sitting next to me who had brought her dress.

She had it in the bridal garment bag, not just a normal one. She ended up folding it lightly in half and put it above the seats- seemed to fit. The way that the plane was, she couldn't just put it straight over a few bags, because all of the over head compartments didn't connect.

She said that she called them beforehand and told them that she was coming, just so they knew.

Find out how crowded the plane is- can you just put it in the seat next to you?

good luck!

Women here at work got married in Hawaii...
She carried it on in a garment bag. Once she got on the plane, the flight attendent took it and hung it up for her. She also put an index card stapled to the bag with her name and address on it just in case.

Good Luck!
