Can anyone give me some info on what good deals are out there on trucks/mini vans ?
I plan to trade in/sell my Honda Civic (its a 2001 with 22,000 miles on it) so im expecting to get at least $12K for it (plus we paid it in full brand new) so nothing is owed on it.
I know if we stay with Honda we can get a better price for it, but they dont have any 'Deals' or any Zero % APR on anything...
We want something thats -roomy, fuel efficient, will last forever I know alot of trucks now have that extra row of seats, so thats an option too...

Re: Anyone Truck / MiniVan Shopping Lately ??
I checked around to alot of dealers and I know most dealers are offering 0% APR or a cashback bonus (as well as loyalty bonuses). I had my heart set on a Dogde but the cost was a little up there - $23,000 and up for a basic no frills model. Originally I hated the Kia's but I ended up getting a Sedona (which I love!!) for around $18,500 with 0% APR. It's not the best on gas, but it's a far cry from what I had (a pick-up truck with no a/c). It's a little more stylish than the usual minivan and I love the color (garnet). I didn't 'need' a van because I don't have kids. I wanted the van because my mom has trouble manuevering in a regular car (bad hips and knees) and going from a truck to a small car was an adjustment I couldn't make.

I don't know anything about fuel efficiency - but I have been seeing quite a few Hyundai Sante Fe's on the road - I think they are so attractive. I saw a commercial (a while back though) and they did offer 0%, as well as a 100,000 mile warranty. Maybe something you can check out.

do dealers take trade-in from other car mfr's ? Like can I get trade in my Honda at a Mazda Dealer ? or do I have to go to Honda again to get the best value for it ? or should I sell it privately ?

You'll get the most money if you sell it privately. I think most dealers will give you about the same price for it, according to the Kelley Blue Book value. The only reason you might want to go to a Honda dealership is because they might give you some sort of loyalty discount but it has been my experience that it's very hard to get a honda dealer to budge much on price since their cars 'sell themselves.'

Yep, the Honda guy on the phone this morning was like 'no we dont have any 0% APR, we are selling a CAR, NOT a percentage RATE' and he went ON about how much Honda's hold their values much more than other cars..etc.. I guess we'll consider a Honda again, but I really want the best deal...

well, think about it in the long run, you get what you pay for. Hondas keep their value for longer than a lot of other cars, and they are easier to sell. So, even if you're paying more now, you will get more in the end when you go to trade it in/sell it.
How has your civic been? Have you had any problems with it? I have a honda, and after a year and a half, so far so good (knock on wood). My mom had a dodge caravan, and it was in the shop more than it wasn't. The thing went through three transmissions in about 3 years. She also had a ford, and it was recalled many times. Try to get your hands on the Consumer Reports anual car issue, it's really helpful when buying a car.

Re: Anyone Truck / MiniVan Shopping Lately ??
We just ordered a Saturn Vue. It was not expensive, has great comfort features, handles well, excellent safety records. And they are offering 0% for 5 years.
We traded in a toyota - so there's no problem with different cars/dealers. The dealer in Franklin Square gave us a better price then the one in Roslyn (pretty close to the blue book value).
I heard you can usually get more selling privately, but we didnt want to have to worry about timing/safety issues.
Good luck!

Tammy my sister has a white MPV, its GORGEOUS!, sporty, and the LOVEEE IT ! Thats our top choice for a minivan. Her daughters are always singing the ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM commercial
Decisions, decisions, lol..

Re: Anyone Truck / MiniVan Shopping Lately ??
anna-
My husband (and his family) own and operate a car and truck dealership in Queens. Not that I am suggesting you go to their place ( ), but if you have any questions about the ins and outs and what you should do or if you want to know if a deal is good, please FM me and I'll do my best to have hubby answer questions for you.
Also, I just sold my car last October and hubby insisted I sell it privately because you get much more. Dealers won't always give you what you want (they don't use Kelly Blue Book all the time) because they need to take the car and turn it around at a profit.
