Anyone use a band AND a DJ??

FH and I are considering having a Latin band and a DJ (our families are Latin/African American). Obviously, the Latin band will only be playing Latin music, so we were considering having a DJ to pick up where they left off.

Anyone ever do this? Would you recommend it?

P.S.: The band we are considering is a 10 piece Latin band whose price is PHENOMENAL (cheaper than a lot of popular DJ services I've seen posted about). So that is the only reason why both would fit into our budget. So it's more a question of practicality.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx girls.

my sister did this like 10 years ago at her wedding and it worked well. just check with both vendors to make sure they're okay with it -- they'll have to coordinate between the two of them and it might be more work.

Sounds like a great mix and a great idea. I wish we could do a band and a DJ to play rap and hip hop at the end of the night, but we cant swing it.

We did that. We had the DJ introduce us and play some of the popular music that we know our guests wanted to hear. However the band played for 75% of the time and did all the announcing. It all depends on your needs. Communication among the vendors is important because they can get terretorial.

My DH wanted a particular band that played Irish music and I wanted a DJ. So we compromised and were able to get both. They were from the same company so that made it easier.

When I gave them my must play list, I had to differentiate what had to be played by the Dj and
the band.
