Anyone use or know about storage units?

My aunt is giving FH and I her leather sofa and love seat. We don't live together yet and have 0 room in our parents houses to store it until we do move in together. We are looking to get a storage in the meantime.

Anyone have any experience with these?

We used one on Rt 110 in Farmingdale when we moved to the house. Our landlord (a$$hole) gave us a week to move out, and we didn't even have a closing date on the house yet! We ended up living with my sister for a week and put all our crap in the storage unit.

They had a deal going on that it was like $1 for the first month and then whatever the monthly rate after that. So we just had to buy the lock, and put down a security deposit. They gave us a code for the gate, and then we could come and go as we needed.

What else do you need to know?

what was the name of the place? Rt 110 is DEF too far but a lot of them are chains. Oh, was it westy?

I also gotta figure out what size.

It was Public Storage. The ones with all the purple and orange. Definitely a chain.

I think ours was 10x10 (maybe). And we packed A LOT of crap in it. I mean living room furniture (including a huge sectional couch), bedroom furniture, bookcases, almost all of our clothes, etc. We literally had it packed to capacity.

we had to use one at work when they sent us too much merchandise make sure you if you move your stuff out at the beginning of the month you are all paid up because they sent us a bill months after we were moved out already...

have you looked into those pods/ the ones where you rent them and they deposit them on your lawn so you can store stuff til you move or make room for stuff etc. wouldn't require traveling anywhere to store your stuff if you had a lawn or driveway to park the thing on.

We used one of these when my parents' house was DESTROYED by Hurricane Charlie in 2004. Of course, this was in Florida, but we did use a chain - Public Storage. No problems at all with them! Very easy, it's all self-serve. We had to move a house's worth of stuff in there...renting a smaller on for a sofa will be easy-peasy!

We just moved a whole bunch of our apt stuff out of a Public Storage in Port Washington...nothing but good things to say about them! They are VERY secure...you need a pin to get through the gate to the main building, then you need that same pin to get into the building and you need to use it again to call the elevator.

Its fun going in, like its Mission Impossible or something

I use Westy Storage in Farmingdale, I used to use Public Storage, got out of there as quickly as I could lol.

What information are you looking for? If you are looking for a place to store a leather couch, I would make sure its one that is climate controlled, and I would recommend not getting one on the outside ground floor where there is a chance for water to seep in. You want to look around, get a feel for the place, find out if you feel secure there, etc. Sometimes when you are there late at night tha tmakes a difference.

My BF and her husband still use Public Storage in Rockville Centre. (on Sunrise Hwy). They have one closet in their whole apt!

They have used it for years, and have no complaints.
