Anyone want to buy my mother?

Anyone want to buy my mother?

I don't know why I thought once we agreed on a hall things would be better. Apparently my mom went to Macy's. She has informed me that she didn't like my china, my flatware or my glasses and bought what SHE wanted and not what was on our registry. I told her that I appreciated her buying us things but we spent a lot of time picking out what we wanted for our home (which is the whole point of a registry isn't it?). Now she's all insulted. My FH who is so even keeled is beinging to lose his patience too.

Ughhhh...I say exchange it for what you originally wanted. YOU have to look at it every day, not her!

Exchange it.

She already had her wedding. This is yours.

Good luck.

Yes that is what FH and I have decided to do....let mom pick whatever she wants and we'll worry about exchanging it later. I am going to try and stop ranting every three seconds. My mother is turning me into Bridezilla! Only happy things from now on!

I totally hear you! I would be conflicted, too. Similar situation--after I broke down crying to my mom, 'why are you doing this to me?' because she was giving me such a hard time about everything, we fought some more. Then, she finally said calmly, 'what do YOU want. Forget what I want, what do you want.' (re: picking a hall) Wow, I thought, I don't even know what to do with that! How nice of her to ask finally. Before I got the second word of my sentence out, she said, 'because I never told my mother what I wanted. I let her pick it.' (in a tone of voice implying that was the right thing to do and you're a spoiled brat)

Obviously, you're not alone!!!!

I am really sorry that this is happening to you. My grandma did the same thing to my mom and dad when they got married back in the 70s. My grandma had the nerve to go to the store, and change my parents registry after my parents had registered b/c she did not like my mom's taste. So my parents got stuff from friends and family that she did not like and could not understand what had happened b/c they said well, we got it off of your registry...could you imagine...she was really upset.

i'm sorry mothers can sometimes be big pains.

let her buy anything she wants to and thank her for it.. and then exchange it for things on your registry. if she asks to see something she bought you, show her the things you exchanged them for and gush about how much you love them.

I'll warn you--we returned a bunch of stuff to Macy's last night and if it isn't on the registry they give you a credit for the lowest sale price EVER--so we exchanged a queen size comforter set for the king size--both originally same price ($299), both on sale for same price ($200) when purchased. The queen rang up as lowest sale price ever $55! And the king which we wanted to buy was $200! They tried to get us to pay the difference which seemed crazy so we left!
