Is it just me or does this show makes us look like idiots? It makes it seem like Americans cannot raise kids and need a foreigner to come and show us how to do it!
Take the couple from last night with the three boys(ages 8,6 and 3) The mother needed a nanny to tell her to put a lock on the door so her 3 year old would not run out the door on his own??? Hello, where is your common sense. You couldn't come up with that plan on your own. And about the kid that kept answering back to his mother....How about smacking him in the mouth...that's what my mother did to me. the mother was like 'chandler, don't answer me back Honey' like she was pleading with him.
I don't know maybe it's just me.

I haven't seen it, but every time i see a commercial I say to DH 'all that kid needs is a good spanking'. Some of these parents must just be a bunch of wusses or something.

I like the show. While I will admit, last night's family was a bit extreme. That mom needed a good kick in the @ss.
The nanny seems to be implementing the same 'rules' in each household. It's giving me a little help in dealing with my stepdaughter.

it is true, I think the message is always that they are never too young to follow rules. And yelling and time out do nothing unless a ton of explaining goes on. They also love to make those kids apologize

parenting and common sense does not come naturally to everyone!! I think it will help some parents realize some of the mistakes they are making, and how to correct them like having to be consistent with their children...

while i agree on some level. i do feel that some things ARE common sense. one has to be an complete IDIOT not to realize that it is wrong to allow your 3 yr old to roam the streets alone.

I watched that show last night. I was so angry watching it! I think the mother works on her tan more than she works with her kids.
There were a lot of stupid things that the mother didn't do (putting a lock on the door, not punishing the children, etc.). I also couldn't believe it when she was laying on the floor, while she has three wild kids roaming around the house and outside as well. Did you see that kid walking the streets with no shoes on?

I watched last night. Ten minutes into the show I told DH what mom was doing wrong. EX...I have to finish laundry, I cant play with you right now..***! These are your children. Save the laundry and do it while they are in school or throw a load in when they go to bed. Im sorry, but to tell a child you cant play right now... is basically saying, 'I dont have time for you right now'. Oh, and the way she pleaded with them..UUGH. I really like the show! Gives us future moms some lessons as to what NOT to do.

I watch the show its really good! sometimes you watch these kids and you say to yourself if i had a kid i wouldn't let them talk back to me or yell at me and let them get away with it. and i would not let my 3 yearold or 6 year old just walk out of the house without supervision. ugh

Re: Anyone watch Super Nanny?
If I had parenting issues I would not go on national TV and let everyone see what an idiot I am. I would seek help in private maybe.
I wouldn't want the world to see my children answering back to me, slamming doors and wandering outside in the street. It's amazing noone has reported this woman to the child welfare services...

I don't know if it's rosey colored glasses, but when it comes to people looking at their own children, things aren't so clear.
I've known many intelligent people who just make lousy parental decisions...or just can't discipline a child for whatever reasons. (And trust me...my DH and I have been shocked with these people...and we always joke that one couple in particular should really be on that show...two very inteligent people, but man, they just fail miserably in the child department, they have two kids who are complete monseter, and don't believe in any discpline, that children who are 3 years old can decide when it's time to go to bed on their own, etc.)

Re: Anyone watch Super Nanny?
That's why you have to put your foot down with them when they are little...
I remember my friend once telling me about a halloween costume she bought for one of her daughters who is 3 years old. She was saying 'I hope she wears it, because she is so picky' I was like 'are you going to let a 3 year old boss you around?, you can give her a choice, she can wear the costume or she can not wear it and not go trick or treating'

Re: Anyone watch Super Nanny?
I pretty much agree with everyone on how some parents let their kids 'discipline' them. I don't know where they got that out of control and bossy kids were ok. I do have to say that it is VERY hard being a mom, especially when you have more than one child. You are constantly going and I totally understand that mom 'laying on the floor' at one point. It is an exhausting job raising children. I barely get to sit down when I am home with my kids. My job at work is stressful, but, there, I get to sit most of the day-lol! I don't want to sound insulting, but, just like the girls I work with, you don't know what it is like to be a mom until you are one. I was the same way before I had kids (my kids will never be like that, act like that, etc.).
