Re: Anyone watching the Oprah special??
that was an amazing primetime special. i love OPRAH and what she is doing is simply amazing and heroic. She is worth billions and just gives it away. What a humbling experience to watch that show, let alone what it must've been to experience it first hand. GO OPRAH!

Lisa Rose,
I thought I was the only one....I have such a headache now. Tears were streaming down my face for the whole hour!
I feel so compelled to write her a letter just to say how amazing I thought she was.

I had to get out of bed, wake up my son and hug him after watching this. She is truly an amazing person. Above all, it made me so thankful for what I have.

Re: Anyone watching the Oprah special??
what amazed me the most was the children...that had NOTHING....no good roof over thier heads, no electricity, no running water, and when Oprah asked them what they wanted they said a uniform to go to school!! These children understand the value of an education....How can we get our children to feel the same way??

Re: Anyone watching the Oprah special??
I honestly don't know how to get American children excited about school.
Both of my parents were born in Haiti, my mom has been in the US since she was 8 and my dad came in his early 20's. They have always told us that education is a privelage and should not be taken for granted. They said that there are many kids in other countries that don't what the opportunities that we have as americans. Which is exactly what Oprah was saying.
Americans take education for granted bc we all can have it.

The show kept me in tears from beginning to end. I kept waking up my DH to tell him how great Oprah is....he was not happy.

Me too
I didn't see the special but she is truly inspiring. Remember when she used to have that angel network show every year?? I would cry and cry watching that show.
that was a fabulous show...and I loved her answer to why not do it in the US (which I'm sure a lot fo people say)...but she is so righ t that these children could grow up to be bitter hostile revolutionary adults...
I wonder if those nuns knew how much they touched her...and how their acts are being carried out on a such bigger level...

Erica, you said it best, the funny thing is America might think these things do not affect them, but American travel freely all over the world and they freely have sex with people all over, if America does not help outside our borders, it will become our problem soon. Both as them being revolutionaries and them spreading it across the American borders.

Re: Anyone watching the Oprah special??
what was the scariest part is how many people over there have AIDS and how many will be affected by it in 5 years!!
I read an article a year or so ago...that I think in Botswana it is illegal for unmarried people to have sex for the next five years....they are trying to lower AIDS statstics...
and girls where scarves in the hair or around their neck...one color if they are a virgin - one color if they are not married, but not a virgin - and antoher color is they are married
it seems so harsh and such a violation of individual rights...but I hope that it works - and in 5 years I hope that more education is spread about the preventionof AIDS
