Anyone who has a Dog and Works Full Time...

Me and DH are looking to get a dog in the next few months (not a puppy but a 2-3 year old). Me and DH work 9-5 (i can be home by 5) and we can't quite figure out how we are going to walk him midafternoon. How many of you have this issue and what do you do about it. Wee Wee pads? Dog Walker?

TIA for any advice

Hi, me and FH both work 9-5 (more or less) and our dog gets crated all day. She actually loves her crate, we got it before we even got her and she has never had an accident in the crate. If you are getting an older dog, it may take a while to crate train him but, like I said, my dog does not mind it at all. She even goes in there sometimes and just hangs out with the crate open.

Hi there... DH and I leave around 7:30am and don't get back till after 6pm. Our dog used to be crated during the day when she was much younger but now she is 3 and she stays out all day by herself. We take her out in the morning and then as soon as we get in and she waits till we get home to go to the bathroom. We take her for walks after dinner or just play in the yard while dinners cooking.

Dog's can wait that long to go? I would be leaving around 8ish and be home no later then 5pm or so. I thought they would need to be walked.

I have a 10 lb shih-tzu and she goes at 8am and then again at 6pm, 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30.

So to answer your question, yes they can wait that long, even if they are small and have small bladders. When I got her as a puppy, I would leave out wee wee pads, and she would use it, but then she reached a point where she would wait for us to get home. Now, she will NEVER go on a wee wee pad. I have not had any problems with her peeing on the floor since she was a puppy.

Even if I take off and am home all day, she won't go out until about 5:30 or 6:00. I try, but she is too busy sleeping

as long as they are trained, they should be bale to hold it in all day. fh and i usually leave the house around 7:30 am and don't get back home till around 6pm, and my dog holds it in the whole day without it ever being a problem

DH and I just got a puppy on Friday. So far he's not trained but we're working on it. He makes the wee wee pad about half of the time. But we gate off the kitchen and he stays there during the day, so no accidents on the carpet. We also have another dog. She's home from 7am-5pm and goes out before we leave and holds it till we get home.
