Anyone with bad knees have any good butt exercises?

Anyone with bad knees have any good butt exercises?

I can't do squats, lunges, etc. becuase they blow out my knees entirely and then I can't do anything at all.

I CONSTANTLY do cardio on an incline so I don't know why I can feel the size of my a$$ growing as I type. I need some good thigh, butt exercises that don't require knee pressure/strain. Any thoughts?

I'm looking at the fitness sites but wanted to know if there was anything tried and true out there.

Thanks ladies!

Have you tried those shoe inserts? I find that my knees get worse after they wear down but when I replace them, it gets better. I also make sure I get new sneakers every 4-5 months because I work out fairly regularly and the cushioning helps. I know it's only serious runners who need to switch out shoes that often but I think it helps a lot. I just can't do any of the really effective butt/leg workouts.

Also try glucosamine-condroiton (sp?). It's a supplement that's supposed to promote joint lubrication.

Re: Anyone with bad knees have any good butt exercises?

my trainer had me do this last night and I'm really feeling it in my butt haha..

lay on the floor hands at side..
bend knees and pull to chest, leaving head and hands on floor
point your toes and bring your knees down but do not touch the floor..
Bring knees in again

I did 30 and my butt feels it

dont know how bad your knees are but hope this helps and hope I explained it right! Good luck!

I have a partially torn meniscus and am taking the supplements mentioned above. I tore it working with a personal trainer- squats and lateral moves in the boxing ring.

Be cautious!! My physical therapist has advised the following (1) DIET- lose weight to relieve pressure on joints. (2) supplements (3) strengthen thigh muscles, do LOTS of those floor exercise that focus on the front, back and inner thighs. That will help- TONS.

For the booty itself- on all fours, lift one leg and bend at knee towards cieling, lift up slowly and hold. bring back to start position (thigh parllel to floor, knee at right angle). do like 20 on each side. 3 reps. Or start with 10.

Also- swimming is really good. Good luck and BE CAREFUL. I barely avoided having to have surgery...but I will eventually have to within the next 3 years.

Sounds like a good core workout too! I'll give it a shot. Thank you!

Thank you! I had a physical therapist for awhile and she gave me some of those exercises to do. I think I'll buy one of those pilates rings too. They're basically simpler versions of the thigh master but it can't hurt to do them when I'm watching tv with FH. I want a nice bikini bottom for my HM!

Start swimming! I was a swimmer in high school and college and trust me, you will get in shape. If you don't have good stroke form yet, hire a swinm instructor for a lesson or two.

I should do that. I hate to be wet though. And it's all cold outside. I've never been a good swimmer either. So it's the trifecta of hell for me and swimming.

I see these old ladies at the gym swimming like a fish for like a half hour. I can go once back and forth and I'm DONE. And I'm not even in bad shape! I can go on the elliptical sprinting for a half hour and be okay but I try to swim a lap, and I'm an old out of shape wreck.

that's because your breathing is totally different when you swim. The first time I did 2 laps (like a month ago), I swore my chest would explode. Lol, I was SUPER embarrassed because I'm in decent shape. You just have to get used to it....those little old ladies have nothing on you!

OH! And that pilates ring you mentioned- GREAT idea. I have to pick one up also. thanks.

Re: Anyone with bad knees have any good butt exercises?

This is what I was going to post - my trainer calls them 'Butt blasters.'

'For the booty itself- on all fours, lift one leg and bend at knee towards cieling, lift up slowly and hold. bring back to start position (thigh parllel to floor, knee at right angle). do like 20 on each side. 3 reps. Or start with 10.'

Also - to add to the above, when you're done with each set, pulse up in the air a bit so that each cheek starts to burn! haha
