my best friend is a PT...she went to the University of Miami (with Trista from the Bachelor!! ) for 2 years...FT...with rotations
and received a MA degree...

edited to say: she now works for Mt Sanai hospital...

I am almost positive that you need a MA in NYS to practice...my cousin got a BA in PT from URI, but is working on her MA at Stoneybrook right now...

let me know if you have questions and I'll ask them...

Yabbobay is right about the Master's Degree, but where I work, we also have PTA (Physical Therapy Assistant) - I'm not sure how much school you need for that - but they have to work under a physical therapist even though they do the same job.

I'm a massage therapist in a large physical therapy practice. You're not required to have a masters, but most of the schools are now 5 year masters programs. If you have a BS already and take some pre-reqs you could get your masters in 3 years. Your last 6 months you work full time in 3 different clinical settings, but as a student - with no pay.
A PTA is a 2 year associates degree. Both Nassau and Suffolk community have programs. FM me if you have more ??'s.
