Anyone working two jobs?

Anyone working two jobs?

If so how are you managing? I work a full time job as a Sales Assistant, and I got hired on the spot last night to be a Hostess (nights & weekends) in a really really upscale Italian Restaurant. But how are you managing your relationship? chores? Everyday life?

I know it can be done, I know it has been done... But i just wanted to know some of the pro's and con's and experiances you guys are or did have.

I do. I work full time as a social worker and part time as a WW leader. It's hard, but I do it.

FH does more chores than I do....he's really great about it. But I do as much as I can around the house when I have the time.

I've been doing it for a few years now, so it's all kind of just worked itself out.

Re: Anyone working two jobs?

ahhh,,,
I work close to 70 hrs a week at my 'normal job'

t and th i run a travel team sports practice, (commute time about an hour total)

weekends we travel to CT, MD, PA, and play games

FH works off hours.

honestly, we dont see much of eachother lately, and its REALLY rough. Its been getting to us lately as we see eachother like once or twice a week if we are lucky its for more than an hour.

you just have to be honest with yourself and your realtionship.... will this be forever? Is the final outcome worth a hard stretch of time? Are you willing to forgo some of your other 'friends' for fh? I mean, if you have a free night, your friends will miss you too.....

we sat and talked and concluded that this is what is best for us right now. we have been togetehr for 6+ years and know this will su*k but its worth it in the end. The attitudes are higher, so the patience has to be too...

did that make sense?

It does make sense, A LOT of sense. I know that we are both going to be stressed, (as he too is working a night job)

I work my real job in the city and then I work 2 nights during the week and Sat morning in retail. Its very tiring and with FH working FT and going to school PT we definitely savor Sat nights and Sun even though all we do is mostly veg or sleep from exhaustion. I'm trying also to find an assistant DOC position for the weekends so overall I work ALOT but I figure its what needed to help us with our future so even though its frustrating its worth it.

I am, and i'm going to school full time, this is my typical schedule...

Monday
work till 5pm
see FH around 8-11

Tues
work till 5 or 7:30
go home do hw

Wed
work till 1
class till 6:30
go home, FH comes over for dinner

thurs
work till 5
class till 8:30
go home and crash

fri
work till 5
see FH

sat
work #2(no specific times)
if i can I see FH

sun
work #2(no specific times)
if i can FH comes over for dinner

I ALWAYS see FH on Mondays (if he can cuz he plays hockey). And I always see him on Wed or another day during the week. Typically sunday night i also see him but that's about it. If i see my friends it's typically on a friday or on the weekend once in a blue moon. I do chores when I can (i have piles of laundry to do tonight). It's hard but i've always had a lifestyle like this, running from one thing to another. I don't think i've ever seen FH more then 4 days in a row since we started dating. (except when we were on vaca a year ago).

piece of advice....

when you DO have time together, enjoy it.
dont stress wedding, or house, or whatever may be going on.... just be in love and have fun.

Re: Anyone working two jobs?

I am actually working 3 jobs.

1) Full time executive assistant at radio ad firm (9-5 M-F).

2) Work at a deli Sat from 7am-2pm and Sunday 7am-4p.

3) It's not an all the time job, but when available, I do catering with a friend of mine (not like I cook, but I serve the food at house parties, wedddings, etc.)

I live with FI so there's no problems with seeing him, but I gotta say my social life is shot to ****.

Re: Anyone working two jobs?

I work 2 jobs right now and it has me working 7 days a week. I get home at about 8:45 which doesn’t leave much time for me and FH but we kinda see it as 'gotta do what we gotta do' its only until january. Im working on the weekends as well so we sporadically see eachother. So far its not too bad, it actually makes the small amounts of time we have with eachother better. As for chores, I do most of them. I just do them on the weekend when I have some time

Re: Anyone working two jobs?

LOL, this is LONG, sorry!

FH and I have been together all through college and law school for both of us. He's 2 years ahead of me, so now he's working full time and then some, but all throughout our relationship the time each of us has had has varied. In other words, sometimes he had more school and I had more hours at work or vice versa, so every semester our time ofr each other had to be reevaluated.

We've never lived together and still don't. I'm in Queens and he's in Brooklyn... about 45 minutes apart. I go to school full time, work a clinic at school and work a part time Pharm tech job, so it's touch to make time, but we make sure we do it because it's important. When he was studying for the bar, I made sure I made time to go to him. When I was overloaded with credits and a job and his semester was light, he realized he had to come to me more often, that the travel couldn't always be tit for tat. You get uit back in the end.

And we do try to keep in mind that when we're together, we need to just be together. We talk about the wedding on the phone when it's erious planning stuff when we know we can't physically be together, that way the time we have together is lighter and more enjoyable. Everything gets put aside for those few hours two or 3 times a week

If you're getting married, you should be at a place where you work it our however you can. Just remember each other, be courteous of each other and try to remember when one or the other gets frustrated it's with the situation, not YOU and not tot take things to personally. Be supportive. That's what's gotten us through the last 5 years of school and many MANY jobs for both of us. Remember, no tit for tat, it'l come out in the wash if you're working at your relationship.

You'll do it! and you'll be glad you did later when your wdding is everything you dreamed and you're a better person for the experience.

Re: Anyone working two jobs?

I actually used to work 2 jobs, sometimes 7 days a week, until the store I worked the 2nd job at closed. So for about the past year I been working my M-F job which gets me home about 8pm.
I actually brought up to FH that I would like to get a 2nd job again on the weekends so that I can start saving more towards the wedding.
He says he doesn't want me to do that, he doesnt want to go back to the schedule of us barely seeing eachother.
UGH I really want to do this but I also don't want it to affect our relationship either!

I work two jobs and so does FH, sometimes we don't see each other until 10 at night, but we manage to get things done at the house and get some quality time together. You find the time to manage things

I work 7 days a week. 6 hours on S/S and 11 hours M-F. FH does most of the chores and cooking. We make sure that every Sunday no matter what we watch Bridezillas together so that we have time together. We also live together so we go to bed together every night.

I did for a little bit in hopes of saving more money for the wedding but I couldn't handle it with my crazy day job hours so I had to quit....

....good luck to you!
