Is anyone concerned about people not coming to the wedding bc of giving a gift with us now being in a recession and things progressively getting worse?? people have told me that some people backed out of there wedding cause they cant afford a gift bc of economy getting worse.. and didnt want to go to wedding if couldnt cover a plate... of course we dont care and want them there but some people might feel funny...just saying cause someone at work had 3 family members say that times are bad cause husbands worked for lehman and couldnt make wedding..

Nope, recession or no recession I feel people should give what they can afford...if that means 50 dollars or 500 dollars it doesnt matter. I am just happy they will be there to celebrate.

Personally, I am not worried. I know a lot of people think it's about the gifts. But it's really not. I know this is a touchy subject for many but seriously you can't throw an elaborate wedding in hopes that it will pay for itself. Besides, I am just happy to celebrate the day with people that are important to me and are there to witness us getting married and the love we have. Don't need any gifts to justify that.

Well, I think if that's the case then it's understandable. I mean, what can you do? I mean, people may feel funny to come empty handed but if they call and say that is the case and you express that it's the company you'd love (if you are fine with that) depending on who this is, maybe they'd come, I don't know.
My FH's cousin got married for the second time and had his wedding literally before Christmas- maybe it was the weekend before Christmas, if I recall correctly. Anyway, FH and I were only 21 at the time and I worked in Ikea and went to school and he just started his new job. We didn't make much money then. Honestly, as embarassed as we were, we gave what we could afford and went. We wanted to be there to witness the union of his cousin and his soon to be wife. And it was nice and we are glad that we went. We wrote a really nice card and explained that due to circumstances, we gave what we could afford and honestly, his cousin was happy that we came. FH called him afterwards and apologized again and his cousin was just happy that we went and wasn't upset at all.

Yea I hope people are like you and FH ! I just don't want people not to come because they think its an expense. I just want them there to celebrate me and FH and to have a good time !!! I told my friend from work to just call them and tell them to just come anyway and it didn't matter ..thats what i would do

I'm concerned about people not wanting to travel with the economy, not too concerned about gifts though.

Re: anyone worried
It will happen. My dad's cousin backed out of our engagement party for that reason. SO I am expecting it at the wedding. But were inviting to many people already so it might be a good thing. The people who care the most and who I want there the most will be there.
