Anyone worried about the Best Man's toast??

Anyone worried about the Best Man's toast??

FH chose his only brother as his BM, who he is fairly close to. Well, FBIL was the BM at a wedding we attended a few months before we got engaged where he told a joke about condoms. It was a funny joke but I felt it was inappropriate. FH tells FBIL (jokingly) that his speech will need to be proofread, well this is now a huge standing joke with the family. So we go to FSIL's wedding last week where the BM proceeds to make a Bonnie and Clyde reference saying that he's Bonnie and the grrom is Clyde because he's the one with the t-ts!! OMG....don't BM give heartfelt speeches anymore about how lucky the groom is to have found such a wonderful bride?? FH's sisters tell me that FBIL's speech will be like that because it is his brother....

Now I'm worried about the speech. Anyone else??

Don't worry. My brother and SIL worried about their best man's toast because my brother's BM (his best friend since he was 4) was a very quiet guy and bro was afraid his toast would be something like, 'Best of luck' Fortunately, the BM decided to start by talking about meeting my brother on the street corner and all the fun they have had through the years. Weddings have a way of getting people to say the things they have been thinking for years.

A brother will most likely give a heartfelt toast because

1) The Groom is his brother with whom he has shared so much in life
2) Mom and Dad might scream if he says anything off color

Nah, I'm too busy worrying about the bachelor party. The toast will be easy after that.

I was a little worried but my DH's best man (his brother) said something so sweet I will never forget it! He really surprised me!

It was raining the day of the wedding and as soon as we arrived at the reception it started to snow (this was March 30 if this year!!)
he said..
He went on how my DH was the littlest of the 6 kids and how they would always pick on him. He started going on how me and my Dh met and at the end of the speech he said:
'We didn't expect snow but with every snowflake that hits the ground may it be another happy moment in your lives'

I was like WOW!! I thought that was so sweet.

Our BM (DHs BF) gave the most beautiful thoughful speech. He spoke of them growing up together, playing, loving cars and then said the nicest things about me. Me, DH and most people in the room were crying

Sometimes they surprise ya

I am worried, the best man is my FI's brother, the one who was causing all the trouble with wanting to bring is children to the wedding. I don't like him, and we don't get along.

If he makes a bad toast, he'll have a bunch of my family to deal with (the entire guest list is my family minus around 8 people who are FI's family)

yes, I don't things that are out of my control . . .

I was worried if FH was picking a friend, but his cusin doesn't know allthe gory detials of our lives, so it will be better, I hope.

If it was a freind, it would be ahrd for me to ask not to proffread.
I think you should throw in little, 'no condom jokes' comments anytime the speech come up.
Hopefully he'll take you seriously.

Tell your FI to talk to him and perhaps he will keep it toned down? Let FI know you are worried.

I actually told my FI BM (in a joking way) to be good. At my FI first wedding I understand he made some 'jokes' so when he brought it up I said something. I should mention that I am having my sister the MOH give a speech also.

Just make sure you let him know what you deem as inappropriate and what would make you feel uncomfortable and upset - hopefully he will understand and respect your wishes.

My only requirement for speeches is a one drink maximum prior to grabbing hold of the mic!

The only thing I was worried about was how boring and lame it would be. DH Best Man is not a man of many deep and thoughtful words. We got the 'best of luck in all you do' toast. Oh well!

YES! First because we can't understand half the words we says (he kinda mumbles) and because he can have a sense of humor we don't understand.
