I think that would be great - but I am not good at public speaking as is. So I think I'll stick to the general vows. Plus there is something sweet about using vows that so many people before you have used.

we didn't write our vows so much - we wrote a letter to each other (half of a typed page) telling each other why we wanted to marry one another. It MADE our ceremony. It's really hard (it took me months to come up with something) but it's so worth it!

I am, but I have no idea where to start either. FH is good at writing and refuses to help me, he says he already knows what he's writing.

We are writing our own vows - but we're doing it together so we'll both be saying the same thing. I googled wedding vows a few months ago and there was a ton of stuff - that may be a good place to start. I've also read magazine articles that suggest sitting down w/ FH and discussing why you love each other and work well together and why you're getting married, what you hope to get from the marriage, etc.

we are writing our own vows, but using the traditional vows as well. I really like the idea of us saying something from our hearts... but we also like the idea of saying the tradition al ones. So we have the best of both worlds.

We talked about this -- I think I'd cry too much, but I really want to do it. So we compromised that we're going to write them (or a letter) privately for each other and read them on our wedding night :)

We're doing our own 'personal vows' first. Like stuff about what he means to me, how he changed my life...that kind of stuff. Then, we'll do the traditional vows to end it.

I'd say, just every once in a while, when you have one of those 'moments' when you think of how much you love him, just jot it down on a piece of paper. And it doesn't have to be poetic, just a thought that you may have during the day. THen, when you have free time & a clear mind, you can then take all of the little things that you've written down & try to compose it so it sounds a little more elegant.

I think it's just harder to sit down & try to write down 'vows'. At least this is the way I'm trying to do it. HTH!!

We're thinking of writing our own vows, but I'm worried I'll be too nervous and emotional and won't be able to remember them or get them out. Part of me is thinking of coming up with some general ideas and then just wing it - so it really comes from the heart...not totally memorized. Not sure...the traditional vows may be the better decision for us - less stress. We'll see.

We wrote our own vows, which we added on the standard ones. It was really just a statement of how we feel about each other. We read them because I knew no matter how hard I tried, I wouldn't remember them that day!

DH wrote our vows since he always write really beautiful things. We said the same thing to each other. The Rabbi read it to us line by line so we could say it while looking at each other.
