Anyone's FH know about cars? (Question about windshield wipers)
I replaced my windshield wipers a while ago thinking they were old and I just needed new ones... but it didn't help the situation much. But I'm getting irritated now because when it rains, I can't see very well and I figure there's gotta be something I can do about that and I totally forgot to ask about it last time I had work done on the care.
So... could there be a film on the windshield from something someone else who owned the car before me used on it? Is there a good way to clean it, or get rid of any rsidue that might be built up making the wipers drag?
And what's the best wiper I can put on the car with the snow coming?
If anyone's FH can answer these and you can relay these questions to him, I would so super appreciate it.
My FH is wonderful, but competely devoid of any usefulness in this area.

Okay this is what he said:
'It depends. The windshield might be dirty on the inside instead of the outside, so she might have to clean it. She might need to spray the windshield wiper fluid when she wipes - that might help the problem, but spray a lot.
I also need to know the year, make, and model of the car to give her best advice on the wipers...
P.S. Rain-X is always a safe brand to go with on windshield wipers'

WIndshield isn't dirty on the inside, and the wipers are dragging the water across the windshield and not clearing it completely off.
It's a 98 Saturn SL2
Thanks hon, you're my favorite person of the week!

Okay, next question from FH lol - did you install them yourself or at the mechanic?
Answer coming soon! Haha
He also said these are the best ones to get:
Driver side http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Rain-X-Latitude-Wiper-Blade/1998-Saturn-SL2/_/N-jadj5Z8gcw1?counter=7&filterByKeyWord=wipers&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=944710_183232_0_2805
Passenger side http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Rain-X-Latitude-Wiper-Blade/1998-Saturn-SL2/_/N-jadj5Z8gcw1?counter=6&filterByKeyWord=wipers&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=944709_183233_0_2805

I doubt this is it - but the one thing he could think of is that they weren't installed properly or it's the wrong ones for your car. He said the passenger one is bigger than the driver.
'She might have gotten two driver side wipers or two passenger side wipers instead of left/right.'
He also recommended you get the ones I sent before - and that once those are installed you should be set.
We bought the wrong ones for our car once, and they did very similar to what you wrote before.
Sorry if that's not too much help!

Re: Anyone's FH know about cars? (Question about windshield wipers)
I had this problem when i first got my car too... you can try to windex the outside then what i would do is get Rain-x wipes ( this will help with the water to flow off the windshield when it rains) also i always use the Rain-x wipers and washer fluid. I would say get the ones that form to the shape of the windshield This way it will hug the shape of it and hopefully keep them dry when it rains.. and snows...
I dont know if this will help but its what i do

Have the car washed and get rainex. Maybe there was rainex on it and it's fading away?? Get wipers that have a snowflake on the package or ones that just say all weather. I think most are these days. I don't buy expensive ones for the winter since they wear out in a few months.

i love my rainx wipers they are the ones that hug the windshield a little more $ but worth it.
also try taking rubbing alcohol and clean the wiper blade with that there maybe be gunk on the rubber part of the wiper.

Re: Anyone's FH know about cars? (Question about windshield wipers)
From FH:
Yes, there's probably some kind of icky residue on the windshield - it's just something that wipers won't take off through regular use. Replacing the wipers will help (form-fitting wipers especially, also known as mono-beam, or all-rubber wipers). Use any brand, don't pay for a name like bosch or rain-x, as the cheaper brand from the store you're in will do just fine.
After replacing the wipers, use rain-x glass cleaner and glass treatment (2 different things, so two different steps) and your streak problem should be eliminated. If not, then re-post what you did and I'd be glad to help out more.

i use rainx washer fluid, AND the rainx wipers.
for the winter I get the bug and tar rainx bc of all the sand and salt, i didnt want my windshield to be scratched.

Re: Anyone's FH know about cars? (Question about windshield wipers)
The person who had your car before you may have coated the windshield with Rain X...
Which can be very annoying... Try maybe washing it with a grease cutting detergent..
If not it also could be the type of wipers.

get some white vinegar at put it in a spray bottle andspray it on the outside window. that will cut any kinda grease or oil that is on the windshield.
