My FI and I agreed that he should break down and buy a tux, because he's always renting them for this and that. If anyone bought one, where did you get it? Any suggestions?

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
Pete is also going to buy one.... it makes no sense to spend $ on the tux to rent it when you can buy a decent on for not too much more $

We are going to inquire when we go shopping for tuxes - one of his GM recommended one place in particular, however, the name escapes me!

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
My DH did - and he's already gotten his money's worth out of it. He bought it online, my dad did too. There are some great deals out there. I think they paid ~$250-300? for designer tuxs. My dad's is Geoffrey Beene and Al's is Fumigalli's. They figured out what style/type they wanted in rental places.
There's a place in Farmingdale that has really cheap deals, but nothing caught the boy's eyes there (or they didn't have the right size).
edited to say: I never understood why we'd spend $$$ on a gown and the groom is in used borrowed clothes. I encouraged the purchase

FI tried one on in the Men's Warehouse in Carle Place that he liked. This is where we picked out what the BP would be wearing.

Sounds like a good idea, but there is no way I will ever get him into it again!

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
MY FI doesn't like wearing them but the second I said he'd save $$$$$ in the long run, he was all for buying it! With my FI you have to appeal to the wallet to get him to do something like buy a tux!

My FI wants to buy his too - I tell him hey - If I'm going to wear my wedding dress to vaccum you can wear your tux to clean the toilets =))) It will be like our wedding day all over again!

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
Just went Tux shopping last night. Bloomies is having a great sale....except the one in the city was a nightmare yesterday. FH and I have 6 black tie weddings this year and 3 black tie optionals....he will definitely get use out of it. Me on the other hand....my dress is way more $$$ than his tux and he will be wearing it for years.

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
We've seen a bunch at Syms and Today's man, and while affordable, things didn't fit FH right... But we're likely to go back to these stores. Zeller's also sells them but at higher prices.

My husband bought his tux, and he has worn it once already. Too bad I can't wear my dress again.

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
my DH has worn his tux 4 times already, but I've worn my dress 3 times so I'd say I've definitely gotten my money's worth!

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
The place in Farmingdale is S&B on (I believe) Smith Street. The only concern is - - will FI match GMS? I'm assuming what you can purchase is a little better quality and fashionable then rentals.

Re: Anyone's FI buying a tux?
Our groomsmen didn't match. If they already owned a tux, they wore what they had - but they all wore the same vest and tie. If they rented, (which only 2 did) they rented a similiar style.
Friends of our did this at their wedding too - which was one occasion Al was able to wear his tux again.
In the pictures, they all look uniform. How different is your basic black tux? The subtle differences (3 button vs. 4 button etc) aren't noticeable.
edited to say - my girls were in different dresses too, so I wasn't so worried about a uniformed look.
