Anyone's parents taking over?

Anyone's parents taking over?

My parents are wonderful, however they are taking over all the planning. My FH and I feel like we are doing whatever they say. They have great taste and making great plans but it's our wedding and we feel left out.

I feel bad telling my mom though...she has taken this wedding on to be a project. She is a designer and has already started plans for the BM 's dresses and already contacted Vera Wang for my dress. But I kinda had other ideas....I don't know what to do.

I know you don't want to offend your mom, but you really need to sit down and talk to her. Just let her know that you appreciate all of her help and her enthusiasm, but you feel like maybe she can tone it down and be more interested in how you and your FH want things done and what the two of you are envisioning. I can tell you now, as I'm sure many other brides can attest to, if you let this go now it will only get worse. As exciting as it can be for parents, it doesn't change the fact that your wedding day is supposed to be about you and your FH. Maybe put your mom in charge of certain things and handle others on your own or with your FH.

That's the number one reason why Fh and I decided to pay for the wedding on our own. I knew my parents would go crazy with what THEY want for the wedding if they paid.

I would sit down and talk to your mother and REMIND her that it's YOUR wedding.

Good Luck

Nicely stated!!!!!!! I went though the same situation being the only girl, 1st one married. I handled it like suggested above and thing ran much smoother.

I sat my mom down right at the beginning. We all went to see the first place we were looking at for reception. Mom walks in first. The woman says name, as in name that the appt is under, and she said HER name. Nipped it in the bud that night!
