DH read about it the other day so we have been running virus scans and checking for updates frequently as well as being extra careful about opening mail.
DH sometimes opens them and then tries to un-subscribe which only makes it worse. He did something the other day that reset the home page some porn site

I think they said this one isn't spread through an email...and there are patches that need to be downloaded for them?

My pc is ok, I downloaded the patch from microsoft. If anyone hasn't, download it now! I think it's in the upper right corner of the microsoft home page.

No but my company has been doing a ton of virus scans and upgrades and my PC has been SLOW SlOW SLOW because of it.

Our IT guy just came down here and we all have some virus scan program runningon our computers. So far we haven't gotten hit.

My girlfriend works for the city and they have it. Their IT guy keeps making it worse too! They disconnected from the network (because that's how its spreading) and he insisted that wasn't the problem, so he reconnected them and it spread to more computers!! Scan disk doesn't catch it either...

Definitely get the patch from Microsoft (Windows 2000 and Xp users) and I think another one came out that fixes what the first one broke. And update your anti-virus. This will protect you from it. It is a worm virus but this one is not spread by e-mail - just by being connected to the internet.
Another Microsoft Windows vulnerability exploited.
If you have it, one symptom is your computer will reboot for no reason.

No - only do this if you are at home or if your company is small and no IT people to do this and you connect thru the internet thru your PC not a server for internet access...otherwise the fix goes on the server that provides email access not really your local PC - hope that makes sense.

Thanks! Apparently a lot of people in my company have been infected, though... guess our IT department is a bit slacking!! (Go figure since they laid off about 250 of them last year!)

My DH job at Duke University is suffering from it this week. He's a Computer Technician at the Medical Center. He hasn't been happy at all this week!
