FH and I are looking for an apartment to rent and would like to move in mid-July to August 1. How far in advance do you guys think we should look?
Also any recommendations on where to begin..i hear craigslist is pretty good.. we live in Brooklyn...

Re: Apartment
Id be looking now! It takes time to find a place and I know from my own move there can be wait lists! Craigslist is an idea. Do you want someones home? or a complex?

Re: Apartment
We're moving in JJuly 1st and just found ours... I'd start looking
I used craigslist for where I'm living now and it was great, other than that I'd try apartments.com or just google the area you're looking for.

Re: Apartment
you can also check newsday.com and nytimes.com in their real estate section. that way you can search by area and price.

Re: Apartment
Start looking now!!
We are fortunate enough that we are renting out the apartment in my grandparent's house and we started working on (painting, updating) in January and we will be somewhat done tomorrow when the living room carpet goes in. It's a long process, at least for us it was. We had a goal to be done before the summer because of our schedules.
Good luck.

Re: Apartment
Actually depends on where you are looking If Long Island, you should start looking 1-1/2 months before your moving day Queens/Brooklyn- 1 month is fine, because they don't like the hold the apt for you for more than 1 month Manhattan-Def. 2 months b/4 at least
Most of the owners won't hold the apt. for you more than 1 months.
