Re: Apartment Guide
I live in a garden apartment complex in Babylon. We've been living here for a year and a half now. We found it through an add in the paper. When we were looking I knew I wanted to live in a complex of some kind...so I just looked them up in the Yellow pages and starting making calls to collect info.
Hope this helps.

Re: Apartment Guide
We live in a complex/city..how to describe it..it is all apts/duplex and we have our own city/zip. FH has lived here in this complex almost his entire life and this apt for 7 years. It's in Queens, very convienent to all expressways/parkways. Okay the truth, its in the flight pattern for LGA, its ON the LIE, the kids are noisy and unless you get off work at 2pm there in no parking...literally. But, besides that it is centrally located and I do love it, b/c I do get off work at 2pm! I found all my former apts thru friends or the classifieds. It is so much cheaper than a broker. Try rent.com or the newspapers. Sunday editions are best for papers.

Re: Apartment Guide
I live in a co-op that we found through Newsday. But you should check out www.dsapub.com--it has all the Pennysaver listings in Long Island. Good luck!

Re: Apartment Guide
We tried going through newsday, etc. and saw a few places, but ended up going to a real estate agent. It was so much easier and we sucked it up and paid the fee which was one month's rent. It was worth it because we told her what town we want to live in, what we want and our price range. We saw so many in just one day and made the decision that same day. We live in a house, upstairs. We lucked out with a good landlord, who doesn't even live here, so it is a great starter apartment for us. Once we are married we are moving into my parent's basement so we can save money for a few years and actually own a house one day.

Re: Apartment Guide
If you know what town you want to live in and an apt. complex is ok, just walk into the renatal office and talk to them - sometimes there are apts available.

Re: Apartment Guide
I work for Avalon Communities up here in CT but they have some awesome properties on Long island very convenient to everything There is one in Long Beach, Smithtown, Melville, Glen Cove and they are currently building a brand new complex in Coram.
I have also lived at an Avalon Complex before i started working for the company so the shoes have been on both feet. I love em!! the apartments are beautiful and very well managed.
