Help! This was our first day of apartment hunting and we found it a little discouraging. it is just so darn expensive to live on LI! We're looking at western suffolk, like babylon, deer park, dix hills, bayshore, smithtown, commack. anyone have any helpful tips or realtors, websites, books, magazines? Know of any fairly priced decent apartments out there? HELP PLEASE!

Re: Apartment hunting
These are for the Nassau County area, but maybe they'll be of some help in case you decide to move a little further west. Also, you should check out www.dsapub.com which is the online version of the Pennysaver--it has all the same listings. If you are willing to look on North Shore, check out www.antonnews.com. Here are some apartment complex contacts I found when I was looking last year:

I second craigslist. start your search through the no fee apartments. we found one in oceanside that we really liked.
