Re: APARTMENT QUESTION PLEASE HELP!!!
well i think a main factor in rent is where you are looking...
I am in Forest Hills and pay $1350 for what they said was a 1.5 bedroom (its a 1 bedroom with a small office), separate dining room, kitchen, bathroom, living room. it has 3 closets plus the double closet in the bedroom In total it is about 1000 sq feet
Included in the rent is heat, hot water and gas we have a garbage room so we dont have to worry about taking out the garbage on certain days and we have a laundry room on the lobby level (that you have to pay for)
One thing I thought important to ask when looking at apartments is if there is a carpet requirement. some buildings say that you must have 85% of your apt covered in carpet and it is in your lease. if there is a requirement and you want carpet thats no problem but if you dont want carpet then it gets tricky...ask if you can use area rugs and stuff.
good luck!

unless the lease specifically says that you have to have installed carpeting then area rugs are fine

Re: APARTMENT QUESTION PLEASE HELP!!!
We own the apartment we're in now, but when we were renting in Astoria last year, we paid $1,450 a month for a smaller one bedroom that had an open layout kitchen/living room...in a newer building, and no utilities included. It did include a parking spot, and was next to Astoria Park.

This made me feel better. I thought I was paying a lot until I remembered the rent situation in NYC. ;) I live in Los Angeles. We pay $2000 for a 2 bed/2 bath apt. It's about 1200 square feet. Water and 2 tandem parking spaces included. We also have laundry ($) on our floor.
