So my FH and I want to start looking for a place soon (but probably won't buy until May)
when is the earliest/latest we should be looking...
And we want to find a place in between our jobs, He works in Freeport border Merrick and I work in Garden Ctiy. We're both from Floral Park, and so are our famlies, so we kinda wanna stay away from our town lol.
Any suggestions? We are such property virgins, its ridic.

Re: Apartment/Condo/Coop Question..
i moved to RVC in Feb this year. FH has a co-op here in the best building ever, so local to everything, LIRR, Sunrise hwy, shopping, bars, restaurants. I love this building, Tudor style, kept up very nicely. I beleive there are stuido, 1 and 2 bedrooms.

Re: Apartment/Condo/Coop Question..
FH and I got our 1st apartment together a year ago today. We went looking at apartments in houses and found that for the small place it was it wasnt what we wanted. We would up in a gated apartment complex paying almost $200 more a month then at someones house. Believe me its worth every penny. I dont know much about co-ops or condos or anything else.
Good Luck in your search

Re: Apartment/Condo/Coop Question..
When we got an apartment over a year ago we went through a realator - which made things much easier - when we went looking i told her that i would only see places if she had 4 or more lined up for the day - this made me able to compare places much easier. Perhaps try it and see - i am still very happy with how i worked out

Re: Apartment/Condo/Coop Question..
Just bought a coop in Garden City a few months ago. Really great area (as I'm sure you know) and great resale value. There are more and more young people moving into our complex. If you can afford to buy, it's so worth it! FM me if you're interested in more information.

Re: Apartment/Condo/Coop Question..
If you are looking to rent you really can not start looking much more than a month prior to when you want to move in. We were able to get the landlord to push off the date to February 15th instead of February 1st but that was it.
We used craigslist and there were plenty of apartments without using a broker. A broker is great but you usually have to pay a commission which is equal to one months rent.

Re: Apartment/Condo/Coop Question..
My FH and I both graduated Memorial 2004. So, so and your FH are around our age. That's so funny. As far as renting... wait until you are ready to move in. Make sure you have a few months rent because they could ask for the security deposit, and two months up front... as well as any real estate fees.
If you are looking to buy a coop or condo in Queens, I have a friend who could definitely help you. He's a great guy and he wouldn't do anything just to get the sale. He cares more about getting you what you want. FM me if you want his info.
Queens - a lot of young couples are looking Baysire, Whitestone, and a few others.
Nassau - some areas are less expensive than queens and you could get a lot for your money.
It all depends on what you're looking for.
