Found the one DH & I are living in now through word of mouth. Currently looking to move into a bigger space and am having to go through a realtor.
It is really tough and taking a lot of time.

Re: apartments
I found one on my own scouring the pennysavers and newsday. I was going to go through a realtor until I found out how much I had to pay them

Re: apartments
We live in an apartment complex, so we didn't really need a realtor to find it. We did use a realtor to look for some apartments in Huntington, though. They were all dumps, and they were charging so much money for rent, it was ridiculous. So we chose a complex instead. Good luck!

Re: apartments
We found ours through a neighborhood newspaper- the free kind that is in groceries and banks. I didnt want to pay realtor fees either!

Re: apartments
Usually when going through a realtor you have to pay 1st month's rent, security deposit (last months rent) and a realtor fee that is usually the same as paying a months rent. Plus these realtors set up how much rent you will pay, which is usually high anyway. My landlady who I love to death charges me $900 for my 2 bedroom. She said she had realtor banging on her door offering her $1200-$1400 a month for the apartment. She said she didnt trust any of them and she just wanted a nice hardworking couple to move in. Yay for me!!!!!

Re: apartments
I've found my last 2 apartments on my own. While I've definitely looked at Pennysaver, Newsday, and Craigs List, I also drove around the neighborhoods I was interested in and took down the phone numbers of different apartment complexes since they're usually outside near the sign with the name of the development.
