Appetizers

Appetizers

I need some new Ideas for easy, quick and cheap appetizers.

What do you like to make when you go to someone's house?

here's mine:

Swiss Dip

1/2 cup mayo
1 cup grated swiss cheese
1 pkg. cream cheese
2 Tbl. chopped green onions
8 slices crumbled bacon (I use the Hormel packaged bacon bits, found by salad dressings)
1/2 cup Ritz crackers crumbled on top

Mix together and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Bacon and Cream Cheese Pinwheels

1 pack Hormel real bacon bits
1 bar of cream cheese- room temp
1/2 onion minced
1 roll of Pillsbury crescent rolls

Unroll the crescent rolls into 2 large pieces, mending the perforated edges together to make 2 solid sheets of dough. Mix all of the above ingredients together minus the dough. Smear the cream cheese mixture on top of the dough and then roll up the dough into a pinwheel. Cut inch wide pinwheels until the roll is done. Lay the pinwheels on a baking sheet and bake at 350 for about 12 minutes.

I have even tried making these low fat with low fat cream cheese, crumbled turley bacon and reduced fat crescent rolls and they are still really good!

Note: the pinwheels will look distorted when you are cutting them but when the bake, they look normal.

I always make a spinach dip that everyone loves. It's so easy - it's a Knorr's Vegetable soup mix packet, chopped spinach, mayo and sour cream. The recipe it on the back of the packet. It's sooooo good! I make it with FF sour cream and light mayo and serve it with pumpernickel bread. Any time we have people over or go somewhere everyone asks me to make it. You have to let it sit overnight then it'll taste the best.

I make something extremely similar except you sprinkle sliced almonds on top (and nix the bacon & Ritz) and put it in the microwave for 5 minutes serve with scoops

Spinach Dip - the way someone posted with the ff sour cream and light mayo. Everyone LOVES. Put in pumpernickle or rye, cut up the bread and also have celery, carrots, cut up cuke to dip in

Taco Salad - mix two packets of taco seasoning with 2 bars of fat free cream cheese.

Spread this as the base on a large serving plater, then top with shredded lettuce, chese, onion, tomoatoe, black olives - serve with chips

Cheese / crackers

Guacamole and Salsa with chips

Veggies - cherry tom, celery, peppers, cuke, carrots, with a good dip

Re: Appetizers

My family throws TONS of cocktail parties, so I have a ton of recipes!

White Pizza Dip

1 container sour cream
1 container ricotta cheese
1 packet Knorrs Garlic Alfredo mix
Mozzarella cheese

Combine first three ingredients. Top w/mozzarella. Bake at 375 until bubbly and cheese is golden.

***

Meat Candy

1 pack Hillshire Farms Little Smokies
1lb bacon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup water

Microwave bacon for about 1 minute, just till warmed. Microwave smokies for about 1 minute, just till warmed. Cut bacon strips into thirds and wrap pieces around smokies, laying seam side down on a cookie sheet, can also secure the ends w/a toothpick. Combine sugars and water, using more or less sugar/water depending on taste. Pour over smokies. Bake at 425 for about 25 minutes, or until the glaze is caramelized and the bacon is crisp.

***

Crockpot Cheese and Bean Dip

2 packages cream cheese, softened
1 can black beans
1 can diced tomatoes w/chili, or 1 can salsa
1 can sweet corn
1 packet taco seasoning
Cheddar cheese

Combine all ingredients in crockpot. Cook on high for about 4 hours. Sprinkle w/cheddar cheese before serving.

This can also be made in the oven in the same way, but bake w/cheese on top for about 30 minutes at 375.

***

Polynesian Mini Meatballs

2 lbs ground beef
1 can pineapple chunks w/juice
2 green bell peppers, diced
1 onion, diced
1-2 cups water

Prepare meatballs to your liking. Bake them for quicker cooking. In a large pot, combine remaining ingredients. Add meatballs when cooked and let simmer for 1 hour, or until liquid is thickened. You can also thicken the sauce w/a slurry if necessary.

***

Pizza Puffs

1 tube refrigerated pizza dough
Mozzarella cheese
Pepperoni
Parmesan cheese
Chopped garlic, fresh
Italian seasoning
Melted butter

Spread pizza dough into a large square or rectangle on a floured surface. Cut into equal rows and colums, aim for about 25-30 squares total. Roll each square with 1 tsp mozzarella cheese and a 2 pepperoni slices. Press the seams on the bottom and sides, but not too tigh. Brush w/melted butter or olive oil. Combine Italian seasoning w/garlic and parmesan cheese. Sprinkle mixture on top of puffs. Bake at 375 for about 15 minutes, or according to package directions.

Buffalo Chicken Dip!!!

1-2 chicken breasts
8 oz. Blue Cheese dressing (I use light dressing)
8 oz. Frank's Red hot sauce
8 oz. Cream Cheese (I use 1/3 less fat)
Shredded Cheddar & Jack Cheeses

*preheat over to 350

1) Cook the chicken and then shred it or cut into small chunks
2) In a bowl, mix blue cheese dressing & hot sauce together - then add chicken and stir until mixture is blended
3) Spread the cream cheese on the bottom of a pan (i used a 9x13)
4) Pour chicken mixture on top of the cream cheese in the pan and spread evenly
5) Top the mixture with the shredded cheese blend (i buy the pre-shredded in the store)

*bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese melts and gets bubbly - service with tostitos or vegetables!

I also tried this recently:

Teriyaki & Honey BBQ Miniballs.

meatballs:
chop meat
parsley
a PINCH of garlic salt
egg
breadcrumbs

sauce:
lawry's teriyaki flavoring
bbq sauce (your choice)

Place balls in pan, pour sauce mixture over them, use a baster of some sort.

bake at 375 for a half hour, serve with toothpicks.

they were so yummy.

OMG I love the buffalo wing dip it is the greatest!!!!

Family favorites are guacamole and chips. i used avocados, red onion, salt, lots of lime, and some tomatoes.

olive tapenade (mix greek olives with a few green ones with some olive oil parsley lemon and one or two anchovies) then it becomes this spread that you can put over crostinis or nice baguette slices and its soo good

also vegetables with a garlic sour cream dip. its sour cream, mayo, vegetables cut up and mixed in and also a lot of garlic powder!!

Other good appetizers are bruschetta with mozzerella, toast up the bread brush with olive oil before you do it. then mix tomatoes, basil and mozzerella and top the bread with it and sprinkle some balsamic on it.

I think those are my four easy favorites. I have more complicated ones but i dont have the recipes on hand so i figured id provide the ones that i have memorized.

Taco dip!!! It goes SO fast!!

1 package cream cheese (you can use fat free, cant tell the difference)
1 can hormel chili no beans
1 package shredded mexican/cheddar cheese (again reduced fat is fine)

layer cream cheese, then chili then sprinkle cheese
microwave for 5-6 minutes (depends on your microwave)

and the people LOVEEE it. Its a staple at all BBQs/parties now.

Re: Appetizers

I love these figs with goat cheese:

• 4 large whole figs (or 16 small mission figs), quartered
• Goat cheese
• 1 (3-ounce) package prosciutto
• 3 tablespoons honey
• 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
Cut a small hole in the center of the flesh of each fig. Fill each hole with 1/4 teaspoon of goat cheese.
Take a prosciutto slice and tear in half. Use 1 half to diagonally wrap around the fig, starting from the top. Tuck underneath at the ends. Repeat until all figs are wrapped. (Secure with toothpicks if necessary.) Place wrapped figs on prepared baking sheet, evenly spaced.
In a small bowl, combine honey and pumpkin pie spice. Drizzle honey evenly over each fig.
Place in the oven on the top rack and roast for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and serve immediately.
