I saw this mentioned a bunch of times on the Thanksgiving post..anyone want to share their recipe.
I have no clue what I want to make are a Thanksgiving Desset. I just went thru all my recipe books and nothing appealed to me. So if you have any other dessert recipes you want to share I am open.
I am defintitely making peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. I was thinking a cake or something different. I was thinking Pecan Pie but I think made that last year. I have this awseome layer cake of cream, cake, candy bars and other sweets but it is better for a summer bbq. Dh wants me to make that one because his dad and sister have huge sweet tooths....maybe I will save it for Easter!

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
Here is a recipie for Apple Crisp
Feeds about 5-6 people
4 Large granny apples (cored and peeled) cutinto half moons and spread all over the pan. about 1/2 to 3/4 a bag of Yellow cake mix spread all over the apples. about 1 stick of butter, melted ( i use more to cover all of the cake mix) then pour cinnamin sugar all over the top of the cake. put in the oven on 350 for 20 minutes, or until you se the top getting crispy...
When taking this to someone elses house: i always peel and core the apples at home put the cake mix on top (or youll have a brown mess) then when i get to the persons house and we are ready for dessert i make the rest there....
edited to say: martha stewarts holiday magazine just came out, with tons of recipies, and also real simple has some good ones too..

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
Darn...I had a feeling I would have to complete the apple crisp at the pereson's house...That would be difficult because I am going to my inlaws...it just wouldn't work...I think I would have someone over my shoulder telling me what I am doing wrong. I guess I will have to save that one too for holidays at my hone!

THANKS MARY!!!!! i never get anything but compliments on it when i make it.. now my family knows when i am making apple crisp dont bother making anything else because no one eats it!!! LOL
Tracy, i never grease the pan... with all the melted butter that i pour over the cake mix and the apples juices it never stuck to the pan....i am sure if you feel more comfortable, you can use the pam no stick butter flavor....

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
I love AC, my mgmr's wife makes it every year and sends me a little dish. I just copied that recipe, I am going to try it. I wonder if I could do it with Fuji apples, those are my favorite

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
Do you think I can exchange Splenda for sugar. There are some people who can't eat sugar coming to my house.

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
Caremel bars: 1 super moist chocolate cake mix (Duncan Hines/Betty Crocker, whatever) - DO NOT MAKE THE CAKE 1 14-oz bag caramels 1 5-oz can evaporated milk 4 tbs butter/margarine 12 oz semisweet chocolate chips 1 cup chopped pecans (I don't use these, but you can if you want)
Preheat oven to 350. 1. Melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk, stirring frequently (don't let this burn - it is a pain to get off the pot....;))
2. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips & butter until smooth
3. Stir melted chips & remaining evaporated milk into cake mix (use the cake mix as a flour...don't follow instructions on the box to make the cake). Should be kind of doughy when all is said & done.
4. Press 1/3 - 1/2 into the bottom of an ungreased 12x9 inch pan; bake for 6 minutes
5. Remove pan from oven; sprinkle remaining chocolate chips over the top & the pecans also if you use them, then with a fork or spoon drizzle melted caramel over the chips
6. Crumble the remaining dough over the top of the caramel.
7. Bake for another 18-20 minutes; remove from oven & let cool.
8. Chill for a little while (if you don't, they won't cut very neatly), cut & serve!

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
A great recipe (although i don't know how 'holiday-ish' it is)
This pie is SOOOOO yummy.... I wouldn't recommend it for the kids though!
Jack Daniel's Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie
3 extra-large eggs, lightly beaten 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 1 cup dark corn syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels 1 cup whole pecans 1 10-inch pie crust
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Combine eggs, sugar, butter, syrup, vanilla and Jack Daniel's Tennessee. Mix well then strain. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the bottom of the unbaked pie crust; cover with pecans. Pour filling over chips and pecans. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a knife inserted halfway between the center and the edge comes out clean. Set aside for at least 30 minutes before cutting. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
You can also make great mashed sweet potatoes with jack Daniels too!!!
I went to a party one time and someone made this great dessert. It was some sort of oreo cookie crumb pudding. Anyone ever hear of it? It was delicious.

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
That's called 'Dirt Cake' Really easy to make. You need to have large mixing bowls because as you mix the ingredients together is sorta puffs up.
Ingredients 1 16 oz. Package of Oreo Cookies ½ cup Butter or Margarine (softened) 1 8 oz. Package of Cream Cheese (softened) 1 cup of Confectioner’s (Powdered) Sugar 1 teaspoon of Vanilla 2 packages of Vanilla Instant Pudding 3 cups of Milk 1 12 oz. tub Cool Whip Topping (thawed)
Directions: Finely crush the Oreo cookies until the mixture resembles dirt and then set it aside. Cream the butter/margarine, cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla until they are smooth and fluffy. Set aside. Combine the pudding mix and milk until well-blended and then fold in the Cool Whip. Gently fold the cream cheese and pudding mixtures together. Fold in ½ of the crushed Oreo cookies leaving ½ for the top. Refrigerate for 10 - 12 hours before serving. Serves 10 to 12.
Decorations: For a bit of whimsy, serve your dessert in a clean plastic or terra cotta flowerpot. (If you use a terra cotta pot, line the pot with foil or place a plastic bowl inside to hold the mixture.) Stick an artificial flower in the middle of the pot and for extra fun, stick some “gummy” worms (candy) halfway into the mixture to make it appear as if worms were crawling out of the dirt.
It comes out as a pudding / mousse type dessert so you need small dessert bowls for it. It is delicious!

As far as apple crisp goes, i dont know about the sugar substitute, and the apples i use granny smith because the lady who taught me how to make this said that they are the apples that cook best.hope that helps!!

Re: Apple Crisp and other Desserts
I cut and core the apples and put the cake mix on top before i leave the house then cover them ... then i dont let them shut the oven off after dinner so it stays heated, then i melt the butter in the microwave (one minute, pour the butter on sprinkle on the Csugar, and pop it in the oven,,,the prep time is literally 2 minutes at that point...i have never made it and reheated so i dont know how it is.,.and i never have any left overs because it goes so fast.. tomorrow i am making two lasanga tray fulls at everyones request!! LOL..
I hope all your apple crisps turn out great!!! IM SURE you love them, and let me know how it turned out!!!
