Re: Applying for passport question..
You have to got the post office - but make sure the one you go to does it- I believe some do nto process it. I have had my application for 2 months now and havent gone to step 2- which is pictures....I think u jsut need picture ID.
I also have a question? Are you applying of rit now and then reapplying after you change your name? This is kind of why I have been holding off - because it is so expensive to get and I will be changing my name by the time we leave?
How does this work? ( I think someone told me that you can leave it until it expires as long as you have you marriage license- not sure if that it true)

Re: Applying for passport question..
you can change your name on it after marriage, but I' don't know if we'll ever travel outside the US again....if we do, then I'll use it the way it is. I don't really mind....

Re: Applying for passport question..
When you apply for a passport you need at least one form of photo ID, like a license or state issued photo ID. Also, they will ask to see your social security card and your birth certificate. They used to be relaxed about the SS card, but the neew homeland security laws made it a bit stricter. Also, if you have it, you may be able to bring your baptismal papers. You can go to any Walgreens or CVS (and many photo places) to get the Photos thay they need for the passport. They must be the proper size & they must be recent. They will need 2 copies of this picture.

You definately need your birth certificate, the official one, not a copy (It has to be embossed). And 2 forms of picture ID. If you don't have your birth certificate just bring as much ID as possible to prove your existence. Good Luck!

Re: Applying for passport question..
When I applied for mine I needed my Drivers Lic and birth cert (orig). They will mail your birth cert back w/your passport. I was a little nervous but it was fine. If you don't want to send your cert get another one and you can mail that one.

Re: Applying for passport question..
we just got ours. we filled out the paperwork and then went to get our pic taken at a photo place that does passport pics. then we went to long beach post office and brought id. birth certif, license, credit card etc... make sure you have all the id you need. even with my fi orginal birth certif, drivers license and copy of ccard, we got a letter back saying they wanted more identification for him.. i couldnt believe it. so i made sure and sent liek 9 other pieces of id fromthe list.. everything turned out ok.. he just got hiss passport today.. it was $$$ for us because you pay an application fee, passport fee and an extra $60 for expedited service- we needed right away and an extra $19 to have it fed exed back to us!!!!

in addition to what everyone else wrote--make sure you don't sign the application before you go to the post office.. You have to sign it in front of them...
