The FI and I are going hunting this weekend. Do we need to make appointments or can we just show up? Oh, and approx how much time should we leave for each appt? Thanks!

Re: Appointment for reception halls?
I would make appointments so that they know that you are coming and have made time for you.

Re: Appointment for reception halls?
call for 2 reasons (will save you lots of time)
1. make sure they are in your price range 2. make sure they have your date (if you have one) 3. if you want to see certain rooms 9 times out of 10 you do need an appointment

yes, make appts, call first, see if they have your date, give yourself about 45 min. to an hour for each place. and definitely map out locations, so you give yourself enough driving time in between. Some places don't require an appt. which is good so that you can squeeze them in if you have gaps in between appointments. etc.

Re: Appointment for reception halls?
I'd call out of respect for the other couples. Alot of places we went to let us in while weddings were going on. We got some HATEFUL looks. See if they hold more than one at a time. The more you see the more you can narrow your choices. A couple of places our friends reccommended and we didn't like at all. There will certainly be places she loved and you didn't at all. She loved the Watermill and said she could see us there. I didn't like the Decor. Bruce was the person we dealt with and he was excellent. The North Ritz Club was really nice and came in second with me. My sis is getting married there. She is one of the bridesmaid for my fiancee so they are visiting almost all the same vendors together to see if they can get a better deal. As for time I'd say anywhere from an hour to 2 depending on how you are feeling. It's very tiring going to 3 a day. Rest and take lots of notes and you will always think of something you wanted to ask but didn't. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions, ideas, or anything else ( even if not wedding related ).
Feel free to check out my other posts
Best Wishes to everyone.

We showed up for efvery hall. I refused to make an appt. I wanted to see what the places look liked when no one was aware of guests.

Re: Appointment for reception halls?
Saturdays can be busy for the sites so it's better if you make an appointment. Make a list of the questions you want to ask (check out the 'what to ask' articles on the knot) so you don't forget to ask them. Ask even the questions that seem silly because you may be surprised by the answer -- assume nothing! If there is a wedding going on at the time -- ask to taste the food right then and there. DEMAND a food tasting!!
Good luck and have fun!

Re: Appointment for reception halls?
we actually did both...a majority of the place were accommodating in sitting with us and going over their menus and prices...the only thing i got turned-off on was with any of the scotto brother places coz they let you come in anytime and walked you around to the different rooms available even if there is a reception going on...i wouldn't want this to happen to me at my wedding

That's exactly what happen with us at the Watermill. We came to see it and a wedding was taking place.

Yes, I don't agree with watermill's no appointment needed policy. First of all I would have hated to have driven there and not be able to see a all because an event was goinging on (happened when I went to show mom). and second, I don't want them to show a room when there is,,,escpecially my wedding!

Re: Appointment for reception halls?
Yes you should make appointments! We mostly made appointments but stopped by a few places without one if we were in the area. But about showing you a room when a wedding or other party was going on, that has happened to us at 2 very well know and well liked places. Oh and We DID HAVE APPOINTMENTS! One of these places even showed us a bridal suite with people in it ! These places were both really nice and I seriously would have booked them if not for these incidents. I would not want this to happen on my wedding day. Though the HTH is not well liked on the board they would not show us certain areas because things were going on (we didn't have an appt.) so we had to go back.

If I could see a room while a wedding was in progress I would NOT book that hall. I think it is rude. I defintely don't want some stranger looking through my weding
