a friend of mine recently got engaged. beautiful ring from a well know jewler company. she brought the ring to be appraised and it appraised for 1000 dollars less then what they paid!! the place was very good about it and she was able to get a new ring. but how horrible is that!!

i dont know what i would do. i would feel weird not having the ring that fh used when he proposed to me. i would always want that ring. i dont know how i would feel about getting a new ring. but i wouldnt want to get ripped off either. what would you ladies do??

Wow normally they appraise high. What my ring was appraised at is def not what anybody would pay for it. I think they just make it high in case you loose it and need to make a claim.
Thats horrible I would cry and hit FH for spending our money!

i did not get mine officially appraised, but my friends dad is a jewelry appraiser & he told FH its definitely worth more then he paid. however i do agree that i would never want any other ring then the one that FH initially proposed to me with

If it were me I would get myself a nicer ring without blinking. I do love my stone & the size is perfect. If FH said get that tacori setting you always loved for years and had as the desktop backround on your computer for years as a giant hint to me that I did not get. Additionally if it was at no extra charge to us because he was ripped off on the orginal ring I would cry tears of joy!

I got mine appraised and it was actually the reverse of your friends situation...its was $2k over what FH paid. FH was able to get my center stone at wholesale b/c my uncle is a retired jeweler.
