Re: Appraiser
I got my ring appraised the the Jewelry Judge in Garden City http://www.jewelryjudge.net/block.htm As far as insurance, you would do that thru an insurance provider---like who ever you have your renters or home owners insurance thru

My ring was appraised at Good Old GOld in Massapequa. They gave me a whole personlaized booklet on my e-ring. They are so helpful & sweet there too!
My ring is insured under my homeowners policy.

Do you have to have the center stone removed from your ring in order to get it appraised?

We second Good Old Gold - bought the stone and setting from them. They gave us two copies of the booklet appraisal with all the printouts of the testing they did on the stone.
I had a second appraisal done at www.justappraisers.com in NYC (David & Toby) - since we did buy from GOG and just wanted an appraisal from some place other than where we purchased. Just Appraisers came in at almost exactly the same as GOG
I have a separate policy for my jewelry since my homeowners rider was We use Jewelers Mutual for all of my pieces.

They did not remove my stone If any appraisers removes your stone - make sure you keep your eyes on it at all times. FH was engaged before and had a jeweler switch out the stone of that ring when it was cleaned. FH noticed and got his stone back but still They were on one of those Shame on You type shows a few years back for stealings diamonds.
