Re: Appraiziles?
Are you insuring through homeowner's insurance? If not, could you FM me info on insuring the ring. I'm still so panicked I'm going to lose the diamond!

Re: Appraiziles?
Do NOT go to a jewelry store and have it done...even the insurance company will tell you that. (I worked at one). AND do NOT use the appraisal that the place gave you when you bought the ring. They mark it up rediculously and then you are paying insurance for a ring that doesnt exist (they mark it up to make you feel good). Therefore, you need to go to a third party that isnt biased in anyway. Go to the Jewelry Judge in Garden City and then have it insured by jewelersmutual.com they are VERY reasonable, its even cheaper there than putting under the homeowners insurance. I hope this helps...this was something I really did my homework on!
And then I got the ring insured with Jewlers mutual.

Re: Appraiziles?
The diamond district in NYC is where I had my ring appraised. They did a good job and the appraisal was on par with what the store from where my FH bought the ring appraised it for. I do not remember exactly which store in the diamond district appraised it but there are so many that it should not be hard.

Re: Appraiziles?
Fh got ring appraised at Macy's on 34th.... his jewelry told him that he would not apparise the ring himself and that he should go to another bias party....
I got my ring insured through Chubb, I am an insurance broker, so trust me i definitely did my homework, my ring is covered for everything and anything!!!!!

Re: Appraiziles?
As one of the above posters said, DO NOT use the appraisal you may have gotten from the place where you bought your ring. Even if they say it is accurate it's usually not. They usually inflate the price to make it look good and like you got an amazing deal. Go to a licensed appraisal co. or person or at the very least go to an independent jeweler.
Also, when you go to insure, you can get an independent rider or add it on to you renter's or homeowner's insurance. But just be clear and understand what your policy says before you choose. Make sure you know what it covers, i.e. loss, theft, damage, etc. And as far as replacement/reimbursement, some give you a check for the appraisal amount and some will give you what they render as a 'replacement' of your ring, which may not actually be what your ring looks like. So make sure you read the fine print! HTH
