appropriate gift

appropriate gift

This question is coming from someone who was married 10 years ago and wants to know if she is giving an appropriate amount. I was thinking $250. Is this in the ballpark?

these days it is closer to $300- in my opionion because most plates are over $100-

then again...you do what you can afford.

Good luck!!

Thanks...didn't finish adding to my pole...hit return...wanted to give more options. I was leaning toward $250 and heard from a friend that $300 was more on the mark...thank you! This helps!

The most common amounts we got were probably $200, $250 and $300....but some were for a family too...I would say $200 was what we got from ppl who weren't as close or as well off, and $250 or $300 from closer people...(or more from some of course...)

Re: appropriate gift

Bottom line is people should give what they feel is appropriate based on their relationship to the couple and what they can afford -

some people try to cover their plates but given the cost of weddings these days, especially on LI - that is not always easy to do or expected.. I personally received mostly a range between $200-400 per couple (some more, some less), again depending on their relationship to me and their financial situations...

If she's leaning towards $300, I'd say that's a generous gift

I think $200 is 100% acceptable and it is what I give most often when I attend weddings. $250 is what I TRY to give but usually $200 is the most I can do, especially if I have a lot at one time.

If it is a close friend or family, I'll try to give 300.

If its anyone else, I will give 200-250 depending on what I can afford at that particular time.

$200 is a very acceptable wedding gift, I think $300 is on the higher side.

If I am bringing a date (which I assume all of you ladies are, lol), I would give 250-300...If I am in the BP or it's a close relative, I'd give at the very least 300...at least, at this point in my life.

I think $200-250 is a good gift. That's what I usually give, unless it's a family member or very close friend, then I usually give $400.

Wow.... 250 sounds like plenty!

I think $200-$250 is a good gift amount. Also it depends on what you can do and what your relationship is to them.

If both of us were attending, I wouldn't give less than $300. But that's just me, you give what you can or what you feel is appropriate based on your relationship to the person.

People definitely gave us less than that and I didn't think twice about it all.

like everyone else said...it depends on your relationship with the couple and what you can afford...we usually do $200-$250

Since planning this wedding which we alla re doing, and knowing the prices on LI I always give at least $300. If its family I give more, and that is for me and a guest. I look at it as what ever I give out Ill get back when its my turn around also. HTH

We give anywhere from 300 to 500 depending on the relationship with the couple.

Re: appropriate gift

$250 for a couple is definitely okay, we tend to give $300 (only bc we are so aware of the costs in throwing these shindigs, lol!) and when it's close family & friends that have us in the bp than we give at least $400 (they pay for bouquets and stuff so it feels right)

If you are coming alone, I say $200. If you're coming as a couple, anything less than $300 is not enough IMO.

That is exactly my feeling, unless it is immediate family.
