apt search- opinions

Fh and I are looking for an apt now. We have some leads. Here is my dilemna. Our wedding is Sept 6.

We will be gone half of the month. So Fh is thinking maybe we should not move in until October so we do not waste rent on the Apt in September.

So for about 2 weeks I would have to live in his basemant apt in his parents house. I really do not want to do this, but I would for only a week or two.

Thoughts????

I personally want to have my apt ready prior to getting married. That way you know you will definitely have one thing settled and wont have to stress over it. You are going ot end up having to do a lot after you come back from the honeymoon otherwise. I think it will also be nicer bec you will be coming home to your new 'home.' JMO though...

This is how I feel as well.

I just told him I want to move in sooner than later.

I think I would probably want to pay the extra months rent so that things could be settled and ready for us to begin our lives together IMO

Get the apartment sooner rather than later. The money will be well spent.

I lived with my FIL's for 3 weeks prior to finding our apartment (I was from out of town), and it worked out great. It gave me time to really become 'part of the family', and 3 weeks isn't that much time at all, it flew. I say don't waste the rent money.

My opinion... move in on the 1st of September. There is going to be SO much going on and when you get back from your honeymoon, the last thing you're going to want to do is move and set up another apartment. If money is the issue, then wait till October.. but time wise, go with September.

I am getting married Aug 17th and my lease starts on Sept 1st. I would have much rather paid the extra money to have it Aug 1st, but the complex didn't have any availablity and we loved the apartment so it looks like we will be staying with my parents for an extra week.

I would say just get the apt before the wedding.
If you think of it like this it does make sense-If you go away on vacation and the apt is empty, would you move out for a month just b/c?
Also what are you going to do with your stuff? Will you move your stuff to the basement and then move it into the apt? Me personally, I wouldn’t want to move 2x. Within one month no less. It’s a pain in the a$$ to move. All the packing, unpacking, putting away, cleaning…..
