Re: Are any of you engaged to a fireman?
My DH is a fireman and I'd like to tell you that it gets easier, but it doesn't. My stomach is in a total knot today and I can't stop calling the firehouse. You just need to pray for the strength to deal with the stress of his job and pray for the strength to be strong enough to support him.
My DH takes days like this very hard (I'm sure they all do) and I know news like this makes them face their own mortality a little. Even though I'm really upset, I have to temper that, and be strong for him.
If you want to chat, FM me anytime

I can't say that I am enged to a fireman but my father is retired from FDNY and I can understand your worries. I pray for all the men always. I was just saying today to my FH that instead of a favor, we are going to be donating to FDNY widow's and children fund. It's the best way to help those that are closests to our hearts.

You guys should pop over to NWR. There are a lot of ladies married to firefighters over there.

Re: Are any of you engaged to a fireman?
I am engaged to a Volunteer Firefighter-so while that isn't his only job I can understand what you go through. I had a real hard time dealing with it when we first started dating especially after sitting in his apartment one night waiting for him to come home and hearing them do a roll call on his pager (I nearly died until I heard him state his badge #-that was one of the most frightening things ever) The only thing I try to think about is that I'm lucky to be with a man who is so giving of his life to help other people. I don't think it ever gets an easier but if you ever want to talk feel free to FM me!

Re: Are any of you engaged to a fireman?
My FH is a Volunteer out in St. James. He is also an EMT in Bed. Stuy. Brooklyn and crownheights. He has to wear a bullet proof vest to work everyday. I don't think I'll ever be ok with his job. He's going for the promotion to FF this summer and I don't think I can handle that one. It's bad enough he has to do it out here. He called me last night at 2:30am to tell me that he was on a fire call for 3 hours and that he was ok and safe. This kills me but he loves it.

Re: Are any of you engaged to a fireman?
FH is a cop in Jersey and a volunteer FF.
I just don't plain think about it ever. But my dad is a retired cop and a volunteer FF too, so I'm just used to it all.
I just keep it out of my mind. They are well-trained and I have faith that they all look out for each other all the time.
Did you see that movie Ladder 49? It was before I got engaged and I was a MESS through the whole thing. People were staring at me. I vow never to watch it again, but I am sure I will, and I am sure I'll be a mess again.

Re: Are any of you engaged to a fireman?
I do worry about him but I would be a nervous wreak if I worried every time he is on duty. My DH gets amazing training..he is a HAZMAT tech, certified in confined space rescue, ice rescue, etc. I have to trust that he is so highly skilled that he knows what he is doing. Yes, stuff happens but then it is out of his control because DH knows what is worth risking. He does what makes him happy. He works with an amazing group of men that look out for each other.
